“You have been in my brain for years.”

“Okay. And what does that mean?” I say, though my heart is racing and I’m curious what he’s talking about.

“It means that I have had a thing for you for ages.”

“No, you haven’t,” I say, shaking my head.

“Yes, I have,” he says, his eyes boring into mine.

“Well, then, why did you fire me on my first day? That was so embarrassing.” I feel mortification at the memory. I’m still not over it.

“Because I had to,” he says, shaking his head as if that was answer enough. I don’t think he realizes just how badly he hurt me. Or how I’d had a huge crush on him at the time that had dissipated almost instantaneously.

“No, you didn’t have to. My parents thought I was—”

“Ella, I fancied you. I wanted you. You were young and you were throwing yourself at—” His voice is sharp and soft at the same time and I’m not sure how it’s possible for me to both love him and hate him so much in that moment. Colton Hart is twisting my brain and my heart upside down.

“I was not throwing myself at anyone.”

“Do you remember when one of my business associates came in and you were kind of flirting with him?”

“Um. He was flirting with me. I wasn’t flirting with him.”

“Well, that made me jealous and it made me angry and I knew there was nothing I could say or could do. And I didn’t want to put you in a position where you were going to have to flirt with jackasses like him.”

I stare at him for a couple of seconds. “You fired me because you were jealous about my interaction with that dude?”

“Yes, and because I wanted you for myself. And I knew you were far too young for me to make a move.”

“Okay. You wanted me?”

“You’re gorgeous and you’re funny. And I knew that you had just graduated and you needed to figure out the world. Plus, I didn’t want Sam killing me.”

“You liked me?”

“I don’t know why,” he says.

“You liked me?” I laughed giddily. “I can’t believe you fired me still.”

“Why? Because you were such a good, hard worker?” he says, winking.

“You didn’t even give me a chance to see if I was going to be a good, hard worker.”

“I know,” he says. “And I apologize. I shouldn’t have done that. I should have just assigned you to somewhere else in the company.”

“Okay. Because I wasn’t good enough to be your assistant?”

“No, because all I could think about was bending you over my desk and fucking you. Okay?” he says. “Just like all I’m thinking about right now is getting into your bed and making sweet, sweet love to you.”

“You want to make sweet, sweet love to me, really?” I say, giggling slightly.

“Um. Well, maybe not sweet sweet, but pretty sweet,” he says, chuckling.

I shake my head and run my finger down the side of his jawline. “You know what, Colton?” I say as I get onto his lap.

He shakes his head, but his hands go behind me and push me in closer to him. I spread my legs slightly so that I can feel his hardness between them. I rock myself back and forth on his lap.

“What are you doing, Ella?” he says as I start undoing the buttons on his shirt.
