My phone starts ringing, and I sigh as I glance at it. It’s my parents.

“You should answer that,” he says, nodding toward the screen.

“I don’t think you can tell me what to do.”

“Aw, are you going to be a petulant little girl? Are you not going to answer it just because I said you should?” He raises an eyebrow, and I answer the phone and then turn my back on him.

“Hello?” I say, sounding annoyed.

“Darling, we heard the good news,” my mother says happily. I frown. What is she talking about? She doesn’t know I slept with Colton, and I don’t think she’d be calling to say that is good news. Especially if she knew how it went down.

“What, Mom? What good news?”

“We heard you got a job with Colton again. That he’s giving you a second chance.”

“What? Who told you that?”

“Your brother called us. Sam said that—”

“Mom, I think there’s been a bit of a—”

“We’re just so happy for you. We’ve been so stressed out since you lost your job. We know it’s hard living in New York. Daddy even inquired last week about trying to get some extra money out of his 401(k) so we could send it to you. You know we don’t have that much to live on right now. The economy is so bad. All our investments have gone down, and we’re just not getting that much from Social Security. I know your brother has offered to help us, but…”

“Mom, it’s…” I pause, feeling sick to my stomach. “You don’t have to go into your 401(k) to help me. I can find a job,” I stammer.

“Well, you have a job now, silly. You’re working for Colton Hart. We love him. When you see him, tell him we said thank you and we can’t wait to see him this Christmas.”

I hold in a deep sigh. I can hear Colton chuckling behind me. I’d forgotten that I had my volume on really high, so he could probably hear most of the conversation. I turn around and look at him, and he’s dancing to the sound of music in his head. I glare at him. He winks. I stick my tongue out at him. He then wiggles his tongue at me, and all I can think about is his tongue in places that are currently wet.

“Mom, I don’t know what to say,” I say as he pulls off his shirt and throws it at me. I catch it and throw it back at him. He starts laughing, and I just shake my head.

“Where are you, darling? Is that a voice I hear in the background?” Why are my mom’s ears so good?

“It’s me, Mrs. Wynter!” Colton says loudly, and I glare at him as he steps toward me. I try not to look at his chest. He’s way too sexy.

“Who’s that, darling?”

“It’s just Colton. I was with him because he needed to give me some work information,” I say because that is much more preferable than telling her the truth.

“Oh, we don’t want to disturb you while you’re working. Give us a call when you’re free. And be a good girl, Ella. Don’t mess it up this time.” My mom’s voice is sweet.

“Mom, I didn’t mess up the first time,” I protest, but she doesn’t want to hear it.

“Bye! Love you!” She hangs up, and I stare at Colton.

“You are a pig. And put your shirt on, please.”

“Put my shirt on. What?” He flexes his biceps and then twitches his pecs, and I can feel my stomach twisting and turning. Why is he so handsome and so muscular? Why do I want to touch him?

“Yes, why did you take it off in the first place?”

“I mean, I can take off other items if you want, or you can take them off for me.” He reaches down to his belt, and my fingers tremble.

“I’m not taking anything off for you, Colton Hart.”

“Why do you like saying my name so much?”

“I don’t. I don’t like saying anything in regard to you at all. I don’t even want to be here. This is a big mistake.”
