Iarrive at Colton’s about thirty-five minutes later, and my heart is racing. I hate that I rushed over here, but I also hate not knowing what’s going on. My anxiety can’t stand being in the dark. I need to find out why he wanted me over here so quickly. I take a deep breath as I enter the building and then the elevator. I brush my fingers through my hair as I make my way out of the elevator and head to his door. I ring the doorbell and wait. My heart leaps as he opens the door. He blinks at me and frowns before moving aside.

“Inside,” he says, growling. I step into the apartment, wondering what this is about. Has my brother found something out? Is he mad at Colton? Is Colton blaming me for the lie? I bite down on my lip and stare at him.

“What’s going on?” I ask him. “I don’t even get a hello?”

“You didn’t tidy up.” He frowns and gestures to the kitchen.

I blink at him in confusion for a couple of seconds and look around the apartment.

“Sorry, what?” I’m not sure if I’ve misunderstood him or if he’s losing his mind.

“I said you haven’t tidied up my apartment. The bed isn’t made. The dishes aren’t done. I thought you would’ve vacuumed.” My jaw drops as he pauses and tuts.

“What?” I gaze at him. “You’re not being serious right now, are you?” I wait for him to laugh and say, “April Fools,” because this has to be a joke.

“As my new assistant and housekeeper, I expect you to take your duties seriously.” His lips thin, and he shakes his head. “Do I have to call Sam?”

“Dude, I’m not really your assistant. I don’t work for you, okay? That was just something we made up so Sam didn’t kill us both.”

“No, Ella. I think we made it very clear that you are my new assistant.”

“What?”

“And let’s be real, you didn’t last very long the first time. I would hate for you to get fired again so quickly. Your parents would be so disappointed…unless, of course, you just wanted the truth to come out.”

“Are you out of your mind?” I cross my arms and stare at him. My eyes are shooting daggers at him. If I were a dragon and I could summon fire from my mouth, I would scorch him with the deadliest heat I could. My heart is racing. Sam would kill me if he knew I slept with his best friend. My parents would take an emergency trip to the Vatican to pray for me, thinking I was spiraling out of control. “You are a prick, Colton,” I say distinctly. He smirks slightly and takes a step toward me. His blue eyes are shimmering as he looks down at my lips.

“I wouldn’t say I am a prick, but I will admit that I do have a prick. A very big prick.” He winks at me. “A big prick that you seem to like. Remember how you were going, ‘Ooh, ah, give it to me,’ all night long?” He grabs my hand, and I pull it away from him and start coughing. “Are you okay? Are you choking?” he asks in concern, and I blush.

“I’m fine. You are the most…” I pause as he runs his fingers through his hair and then undoes the top button of his shirt. What is he doing?

“What?” He grins and undoes another button. “I’m the most hung guy you’ve ever been with? I know that already, hun.”

“Ugh. I cannot believe I slept with you. I must’ve been out of my mind. I was drunk. You know that’s why it happened, right? If I’d known how annoying you’d be, I never would have given you a glance.”

“Sure, if youwould’veknown. We both know you knew who I was from the second you saw me standing on the dance floor, and you did everything in your power to seduce me and get me. And, well, you got lucky. Now here we are, and while I will admit that you know how to back that ass up, that’s not going to exempt you from your responsibilities.”

“Responsibilities?” I glare at him, even though I half want to laugh at his “back that ass up” comment. My voice rises. “I don’t want this job, and I don’t care what you have to say. If you think for one second that I am going to be cleaning up your apartment, then…” I pause as he undoes another button, and I stare at a large expanse of tanned, brown skin.

“What? Would you rather get some and then clean up?” he says, stepping toward me. He licks his lips slowly and deliberately. I can see his eyes on my chest. He reaches up and runs his hands through his silky blond hair again, his blue eyes twinkling as he gazes at me. It should be illegal to be that handsome and that arrogant. I can’t stop my body from shivering. I don’t know why he has this power over me. I know it’s not because I want him again because I don’t. I really don’t. If he was the last man on earth, I wouldn’t want him again. Okay, well, maybe that is a lie. If he was the last man on earth, I would definitely want him. And maybe even if he wasn’t the last man on earth. If I just didn’t have to know it was him, that would be fine. If he just kept his mouth shut and kept his belligerent, narcissistic comments to himself. I point at him and narrow my eyes. “I’m not going to sleep with you again. You wish, Colton Hart.”

“I wouldn’t say I wish. It wasn’t totally unpleasant, of course. I wouldn’t say no.” He grins. “I mean, I’d do you again for sure.”

“You’d do me again? Really? You are so crass.”

“What would you rather me say? I’d fuck you again?”

I gasp and put my hands on my hips.

“That’s not any better.”

“Oh, okay,” he says, lowering his voice until there’s a silky hue to his tone. “Would you rather me say I’d like to make love to you, beautiful lady?”

I roll my eyes, and I can’t stop a giggle at his southern tone. “You’re stupid. You know that?”

“Well, I don’t really think I agree with that. How many stupid people are billionaires?”

I just stare at him for a couple of seconds. One, because I’m shocked at how egotistical and arrogant he is and, two, because I hadn’t realized he is a billionaire. I knew he was rich and a millionaire several times over, but a billionaire? Wow. I can’t imagine having that amount of money.
