Still, can’t say it doesn’t hurt though. We’ve been friends forever.

“So, do you all have work today?” I ask nervously, praying the answer is no. With the weekend stretching out before me, I worry that I’m going to go stir crazy with nothing to do.

Right, Malia, because you had such a riveting social life before you were imprisoned here.

It’s hardly a prison, getting to stay here with Cove and Bhodi though. Or Reef. And the ocean is right outside the front door, and now thanks to Cove’s thoughtfulness, I can enjoy it too.

“I have papers to grade,” the professor answers flatly.

“Fairly, I hope.” The words slip out and my eyes widen in shock. Still, I don’t back down or apologise for saying exactly what I was thinking.

Bhodi laughs. “She’s got you there, prof.”

“Yes, Miss Van der Zee. I can assure that all of my grading is perfectly fair.”

“From now on,” I mutter under my breath. Though not quietly enough if the professor’s teeth grinding is any indication.

A moment later he gets to his feet, dumps his plate next to the sink and storms out of the front door. I feel even more awkward now.Was it something I said? Or did? Or is it just that he hates me that much?

“Don’t worry about it, Mai-Tai,” Cove says, giving me a lopsided smile and a shrug. “”He’s probably just hungover. Again. What would you like to do today?”

“Can we go surfing?” I ask, my whole mood lightening.

“Of course. Whatever you want.”

“Do you two also surf?” I ask Reef and Bhodi.

“We do. We’re not as good as Cove, but we enjoy it,” Reef replies.

“Do you…ah, want to join us?” I ask, unsure if I’m upsetting Cove by extending the invitation to them. Did he want us to spend some time alone with each other? Gosh, this is so hard.

“Sure. I’d love to,” Reef replies with an easy grin that makes my pulse flutter.

“Yeah, I’ve got nothing better to do,” Bhodi adds. I grin at all of them, happy that everyone is on board and that I get to spend the day doing what I love with all three of them.

After breakfast everyone disappears to get ready and Cove insists I use his room to change. He even clears out some space in one of his drawers for me to put my things in. I feel awful about taking over his space, but he insists it’s fine and mine for as long as I need it. There’s no arguing with him about me being the one to sleep on the sofa, and it’s not like I can split my time between sharing a bed with Cove and Bhodi. God, even thinking about it makes me blush.

There’s a knock on the door. I quickly shut off Linkin Park’s ‘Breaking The Habit’ and Bhodi pokes his head in then wolf whistles at me, which makes me even more flustered than I was a minute ago.

“Looking good, little dot. Are you ready to go?”

“Almost,” I reply, hastily pulling my jean shorts up over my black one-piece swimsuit. We might be right on the beach, but it feels too awkward to just walk around in nothing but a swimming costume. Bhodi moves infinitesimally so that I have to squeeze past him in the doorway to get by, and he gestures for me to go ahead. I’m pretty sure it’s so he can check out my arse and not because he’s a gentleman though.

The day is bright, warm and still. The beach is fairly quiet for a weekend, with a handful of surfers in the water already. The surf looks enticing and I can’t wait to hit the waves.

“Pass me your board, little dot,” Bhodi says, coming out of the house with the biggest gun longboard I’ve ever seen. I gape at it.

“That thing’s a beast!”

He laughs. “Thanks. The board’s pretty impressive too.”

“Ha ha,” I deadpan, shaking my head at him. He knows his cock is a fucking beast, but that board is something else. I guess given his size, he needs the length for the buoyancy. “But I can carry my own board, thanks.”

“I wasn’t offering. Give it here.”

“Nope. No one gets to carry Betsy but me.”
