"I-I went into the room to stock it, and Cassidy, she-she put the gun on me; she looked crazy, kept going o-on and on h-how you were hers—have been for y-years." Her tears fall harder when she looks at me with pain and guilt. "I saw the decision in Mel's eyes straight away. She-she, oh God. She mouthed Lilah to me, then tackled Cassidy; she wouldn't let-let her take me a-away f-from my-my daughter..."

She sobbed, and I wrapped my arm around her, "it's not your fault, Meghan." I try to comfort her because it isn't her fault; it's fucking mine. I did this, but she didn't believe me; she just sobbed harder.

I don't know how long we sit here before the door opens, and Stormy rushes in with Butch and Gunner. Meghan sits up, wiping her tears, while mine falls again. I stood just in time for my father to grab me in a hug. I grip him tight back and start to sob again, my guilt crushing my chest. If I lose her, then I'll be joining her. I need her; I can't breathe without her.

When he pulls back, he gives me a hard stare like he can read my mind: "She'll make it, son; she's strong; do you hear me? She won't leave you; she won't abandon you, not like I did; she'll fight, just like she has all this time for you."

I nod before placing my forehead on his shoulder while he grips me tight.

I sniffle as the door opens again, and Axel rushes in with Ink and Flame.

Axel's eyes are wide with concern while Flame looks ready for murder.

"any news?"

My dad shakes his head at Axel's question as more tears fall from my eyes.

I hear Meghan sniffle, and I turn towards her to see her sitting on the chair where I left her, her legs pulled up and her whole body shaking.

Fuck.

I walk over to her and kneel, "Meghan."

She shakes her head and says, "S-she's m-my best friend; s-she saved me; I can't l-lose her; Lilah c-can't lose her."

I grip her hand. "She's strong, Meg; we won't lose her; she'll fight."

She sniffles, wiping her cheeks with the back of her hand while gripping mine with her other.

I help her stand when the door opens again, and Doc comes in, covered in blood, and I pale. Meghan takes a step back, her eyes wide, while Butch shakes his head, chanting "no" over and over.

But all I can do is stare at the man I see as an uncle, covered in my woman's blood.

He walks over to me while scrubbing a hand over his head and says, "She survived."

My whole body sags while Meghan sobs.

I see Gunner kneel, his hands gripping his head, while his dad's tears fall. My own father walks over to me and grabs my shoulder as Doc continues,

"We lost her three times in the O.R.; she'd lost a lot of blood, and the bullet was stuck in her chest cavity. We gave her a blood transfusion and finally managed to pull the bullet out."

More tears fell from my eyes as I nodded.

She fought.

"When I can see her."

Doc takes a deep breath. "Brother, there's a chance; it's slim, but there's a chance she may not wake."

I go still, and Stormy grips me before I fall. "She lacked oxygen each time she coded, and we couldn't, we couldn't…shit. We couldn't bring her back quickly enough each time. Her body was weak. If she does wake, there's a chance she'll have memory loss, and there's also a chance she could have brain damage."

That does it.

Meghan screams out in pain as I fall to the floor, with Stormy and Doc following me. Stormy grips me tightly as Doc grips my cheek, panic in his eyes as the blood rushes from my face while Gunner destroys the waiting room with my Uncle David holding Butch back from joining. Flame quickly grabs Gunner, restraining him while Doc continues, "Have fucking faith, brother. We need fucking faith." I nod in a state, "She's in an induced coma at the moment; we'll ween her off the medication in 48 hours and see if she'll wake. Now get your ass up and come see your girl."

I nod as they help me up while Doc grabs a hold of Meghan, helping her up before wrapping an arm around her. He guides us all towards Mel's room just as Butch's wife Hazel rushes in with tears staining her cheeks. I ignore her and continue with Doc and Meghan. I understand she'll be upset, but as much as I love Hazel like an aunt, I need to see my girl, and Hazel has messed up a lot lately where my girl is concerned.

When we get to her room, Doc opens the door, and I freeze, all the air from my lungs disappearing while my ears feel full of water.
