His voice did something to me; it called to my body and heart like I was meant to belong to him.

What the fuck?

I shake my head; he's either a player or now with Cassidy, so I need to stay clear. I decided to ignore the feelings and go back to the patient.

Ten minutes later, I've just finished filling in Mrs. Lars' notes when Cassidy storms over to me, and I raise a brow at the scowl on her face.

"The fucking idiot didn't make me cum; you distracted him."

I just snort and shrug. "Well, maybe if you were doing your job correctly and filled your cart up, then I wouldn't have interrupted your sex fest during rush hour."

Her eyes widen before she clears her throat, knowing she messed up. "The family of the patient I took from you wants an update."

I furrow my brows, "but you gave them the update. You took my clipboard."

She swallows hard, and I shake my head, slamming her clipboard into her chest. "Bed 5 needs an enema."

And I head to the waiting room, ignoring her gasp.

How fricking dare she?

She didn't even update the family when a family member is currently getting an MRI and head C.T. and that she lost the baby.

What an absolute bitch.

Argh.

I take a deep breath, trying to control my anger, before I enter the waiting room. I look around and make eye contact with a man who is in absolute agony. Pain radiates from him, and I know this is her man. I look beside him and see the man from the closet, and my cheeks heat, and I swallow hard, not willing for him to see he's gotten a reaction from me, and I make my way to the man, who I'm guessing is Axel. The other man grabs his hand and says something before the other men in the room clear their throats before some make their way over to me.

They meet me halfway, and I fiddle with my fingers, ensuring to keep my eyes connected with the sorrowful blue ones.

"Are you Axel?" I ask in a soft voice while someone sighs.

Oh, geez, I'm nervous.

"I am. Do you have news about my woman?"

I give him a gentle smile as my fingers tremble a little. More men have come up, and I'm scared. I'm not exactly tall, and they all tower over me. Growing up with men coming and going because of my mom has not helped my situation right here at all.

I clear my throat, pain shooting through me, having to tell him this, "Dr. Thomas asked me to give you an update on Annalise Lawrence." He gives me a gentle smile when another man comes up next to him and smiles at me, too. He's full of ink around his neck and hands, and I tremble some more. He actually looks like the guy I caught fucking Cassidy: "Just tell us, sweets; I know we look scary, but we are not; rip the band-aid off."

I give a small smile while the guy from the closet growls like a bloody dog, but I ignore his weird behavior.

"Ok."

I look at Axel again, and I know my eyes show compassion because panic enters his eyes. I give him the news he desperately wants.

"After we got her into her private room, she coded, and her heart stopped beating." The two men, who look alike, grab hold of Axel quickly when he collapses to the floor while someone sobs, and I swallow hard. "We gave her CPR, managing to get her heart started again." I gently put my hand on his arm, keeping eye contact with him despite feeling several eyes on me. "She had lost a lot of blood and had extensive trauma to her lower stomach, and I'm so sorry, but after a scan, a heartbeat was not found, and her womb was empty; it was determined that she had lost the baby."

The men curse while I keep my eyes, which I know are starting to tear up on Axels, knowing this has to be harder for him. A few tears fall from his eyes, proving my point: he's a biker, and he's showing his emotions, making it hard to keep mine at bay. "The good news is that her womb is still intact. No permanent damage was done; she'll still be able to carry more children if she chooses to do so in the future."

He closes his eyes as more tears fall, and I give his arm a squeeze before letting him go. He opens his eyes when I talk again. "Dr. Thomas believes her ribs are only cracked, but he wants to make sure. About half an hour ago, she was taken for an MRI scan to determine his diagnosis and also to check her spine. We need to ensure she hasn't received more damage to her back due to her previous injuries, and it'll also show any internal bleeding. He is also taking her for a head C.T. as a precaution due to the extensive injuries to her face and nose. Her head has received some trauma, so we want to ensure she has no bleeding on the brain. She does have a concussion and will need monitoring for a few nights. Dr Thomas will keep her admitted for the duration."

He nods and rasps, "Thank you."

I nod back before he asks, "Is she awake? I mean, does she know about our…."

He's unable to finish his sentence, but I smile gently at him, "She hasn't woken since being admitted; she doesn't know as of yet that we're aware of. During the incident, she may have already noticed; I'm just not sure how much of awake she was during her trauma."
