“And now we’re doing it for someone else, for free, and in record time to open for what we can of the summer season?” Drew walked to the window and wrenched back the net curtain. “It’s got a view; I’ll give it that.”

“We’re doing it for family.”

“Hope owns it, not your mate,” Drew reminded him. “What’s to stop her from selling it off when we’re done?”

“And who would she sell it to?” Heath asked.

“Us, hopefully,” Drew said. “But that didn’t work so well the last time. The damn vampire sold it to the witch.”

“Did I hear my name taken in vain?” Lex called from somewhere outside.

Heath crossed the room and yanked open the window. “Well, would you look at that; somebody can’t get in,” he said, mocking him with a grin.

“Yes, but on the bright side, I’ll live forever; you won’t,” Lex said, motioning to the house. “Remodel?”

“Remodel,” Heath said. “Stay there; I’m coming down.”

“That makes the walk over all the more worthwhile,” Lex said, kicking a stone and finding it cemented to the ground. He grumbled as the pain shot through his foot.

“Serves you right,” Drew said, bracing his palms against the window ledge and leaning out.

“Come down here and say that,” Lex tossed back. It did irk him when he couldn’t cross a threshold, but he only had himself to blame; selling the property to the witch wasn’t his best idea – although, the alpha should be grateful that he’d found him a mate.

Heath stepped out into the sunshine and strolled towards the vampire with purpose. He leant against the porch railing and folded his arms. “Aren’t you forgetting something?”

“I’d wipe my feet, but I can’t get in,” Lex replied.

“We had a bet,” Heath said with a smirk.

Lex lifted his chin and eyed the alpha. “I was hoping you’d forget about that.”

“Not a chance.”

“Then I was hoping you’d be so happy to have a mate that you’d null the bet,” Lex said, testing the waters.

Heath slowly shook his head. “Do I look like the kind of man to forgo my winnings?”

“My car…”

“Mine now,” Heath replied, mocking him with a big old grin and the light of amusement in his eyes.

“You bet your car?” Drew asked from the window above. “Have you gone vampire batshit crazy?”

“It would seem that way,” Lex said. “But, I thought this one needed a shove to get off the pot.”

“I was doing just fine,” Heath said.

“You were bitching like a baby,” Lex said. “I had to do something, and you’re entirely welcome.”

“For what?” Heath said with a big dollop of disbelief that the vampire would claim the glory of him wooing his mate.

“Well, I did bring your mate here.”

“Not knowingly.”

“And I did do the whole thing with the ghost.”

“Huh?” Heath said, twisting his head to the side and regarding the vampire through narrowed eyes.
