Parker threw his head back and howled as the orgasm tore through every inch of his body like wildfire. Wave after wave of pleasure crashed through him until he had nothing left.

Parker panted in the air as his pulse thumped in his ears. Every muscle in his body was on fire. He drew on the last ounce of energy within him and collected Evie against him, gently taking her down to the mattress.

Then Parker wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close. He buried his face into the sweet-scented hair at the nape of her neck and took her scent, storing it with all his other memories of her.

Parker knew they had a lifetime of memories to make together. He had a ready-made family and would need to do right by them – there was no way in hell he would ever let them down.

CHAPTER THIRTY ONE

~

“You’re going to wear that patch of grass out if you keep pacing,” Faith called from inside True’s living room to outside the patio doors, where Jennifer was busy waiting for Evie to show up.

“That’s silly,” Jennifer said, turning on her heels and walking inside. “You can’t wear out grass.”

“Sure you can,” True said. “How do you think you get those little bald patches in the woods? It’s from where many feet have trodden a path to somewhere.”

Jennifer considered it with a frown. The frown lifted, and she giggled. “I only have two feet, not many.”

Amy chuckled. “She got you there.”

“Good morning!” Evie announced from outside the doors.

Jennifer spun on her heels and turned to her aunt. “Do I have a new uncle?” she half-whispered, leaning in a little as if to share the secret.

“Do you want a new uncle?” Evie asked with a teasing smile.

“I do,” Jennifer replied, nodding furiously.

Evie shrugged. “Then I guess you have a new uncle.”

“And we get to keep him?” Jennifer asked, unsure.

“Yep,” Evie said and motioned to Parker to join her.

When the large grey wolf padded into view, Jennifer gasped in delight. “My wolf!” she exclaimed and rushed outside without an ounce of fear in her body. “I can stroke him, right?” she asked but didn’t wait for the reply, sinking her fingers into the wolf’s fur, eyes full of wonder and excitement. “Do I get to walk him?”

“I think he’ll be walking you,” Evie said and heard laughter from inside. “You have to do whatever the wolf tells you; he’s older.”

Jennifer frowned. “But, he can’t speak. How can he tell me to do something?”

The wolf didn’t miss a beat; he sidestepped, nudging the child to where he wanted her to go, and with giggles, Jennifer obliged.

“Like that,” Evie said.

Faith chuckled. “I think someone is going to get lots of treats.”

“Better watch his waistline,” Amy said.

“Will he fetch a ball?” Jennifer asked. “And a stick? Does he swim?”

Faith chuckled. “I think Jen has that covered. That wolf will get more exercise than he knows what to do with.”

“I know how he feels,” Amy said. “Even my eyeballs are tired.”

Hope nodded. “We are short of staff for the summer months.”

“We’re young; we’ll survive,” Dani said.
