“There’s something in the air between us,” Parker said, then flashed a killer smile.

“Oh, that.” Evie couldn’t help but smile; it held a hint of wickedness that made him growl inside.

“Yeah, that.”

In a heartbeat, Parker scooped her against him, lifted her, ignored the shriek of surprise, and stalked into the living room. Evie’s heart was pounding, and she felt the rush of pure excitement, followed by the bomb of disappointment when he placed her on the sofa. “We’ll take it slow,” he said, turned and sat beside her on the cushion.

Never in her life had she felt more disappointed, but she’d made her bed by stopping him when the going was good, and they were kissing. Now that laying on that bed wasn’t an option, she wasn’t sure what to do with herself. “Slow,” she said, shrugging, and reached for the remote control beside her. “Think fast,” she said with a sly grin as she tossed it at him.

Parker caught the remote and frowned. He wasn’t in the mood to watch a movie, and his beast was giving him hell, but she wanted to go slow, and he was willing to do whatever it took to woo her. The best thing was that he was on the right side of the front door tonight.

Heath shifted back into his human form and shrugged off the feeling of the wolf still under his skin. On his way back home, he’d scented the vampire in the air and knew just which vampire it was. “What are you doing here?”

Lex dug his hands deep into the pockets of his jeans and casually turned towards Heath. “I came to steal my car back.” He lied, but he might just take it back if the opportunity arose.

“The keys are in it; been expecting that since I brought it home,” Heath said, but he felt there was more to Lex’s visit than the car. “What aren’t you telling me?”

“You’re getting a dad bod; it must be all that food your mate is serving you,” he said, turning back to look down the row of houses, quiet and still under the pale moonlight.

Heath folded his arms across his muscled chest and grunted. He was in as good a shape now as he was in his twenties. “Deflecting won’t work.”

“Maybe not, but it’s always worth a try,” Lex said, looking back at the alpha. “I’m spying.”

“To what end?”

“Gathering information,” Lex said as though he were explaining to a five-year-old. “Why else would you spy?”

Heath ignored the sarcasm in his friend’s voice. “What information?”

“I don’t know until I’ve gathered it, but I think the witch knows more than she’s letting on,” Lex said.

“Which witch?”

“The feisty one,” Lex said, pouting as he considered his next move.

“Gee, that narrows it down.” Heath would rather be in bed with his mate, but if the vampire were up to something on his watch with his pack, he’d rather know what it was than be clueless.

“Good talk,” Lex said and turned towards Heath’s house. “I’ll take my car home.”

“Have at it,” Heath said. “It’s a little pretentious for my tastes.”

“Big word. Do you even know what it means?” Lex asked, pulling open the door and anticipating sliding into the leather seat and putting his foot down on the open road.

“It means you have more money than sense,” Heath said, strolling towards his home.

“Not exactly…”

“No, really, get a truck or a four-by-four,” Heath said.

“Neanderthal,” Lex said in a parting shot just before Heath walked inside the house and closed the door behind him.

The vampire knew he needed to keep an eye on that witch, but he didn’t think she was going anywhere tonight, and he had his baby back – it was time to blow off some steam.
