“Well, that all depends if you have a great teacher,” Faith said. “Patience is a virtue; the more you try, the easier it is.”

“Is it, True?” Jennifer asked as True walked into the room carrying a tray of mugs and placed it on the coffee table.

“Faith should know; she certainly was trying,” True said with a grin for her sister.

In return, Faith scratched her nose with her middle finger and smiled sweetly. Jennifer chuckled. “I know what that means,” she said, pointing to Faith’s middle finger.

“Nose, you don’t,” Faith said, motioning with her eyes to Evie and back again.

“Nose, I don’t,” Jennifer said, chuckling.

“As with magic, we’ve all got our thing,” Faith said, looking at Jennifer. “You just need to discover yours.”

“I can do that,” Jennifer said, perking up a little. Then she frowned. “How do I do that?”

“By trying a little bit of everything until you find your thing,” Faith said.

Jennifer brightened. “So, can I try the energy drink?”

“Nooo!” everyone said at once.

“Ahh, poop it,” Jennifer said, pushing to her feet and walking to the patio doors.

“Don’t say that,” Evie said, reaching for a mug of coffee.

“Amy says that,” Jennifer said. “And that’s after she says the other words, bad words.”

“Yep, don’t say those either,” Evie said, sitting back and brushing her hand through her hair with a sigh. “I never expected life to be this hard at my age,” she said quietly so Jennifer couldn’t hear.

“It’s Amy!” Jennifer exclaimed, full of beans again.

“Hey, squirt,” Amy said, tousling Jennifer’s hair as she walked by and into the room. “Nice.” Amy looked around her, impressed.

“How are the houses?” True asked, motioning to the mug’s left on the tray.

“Mine’s cool,” Amy said. “Dani seems to like it; she spent hours sorting out the kitchen that she’s probably not going to use because we’ll be at work.” She found a seat and sat with a sigh. “My feet, anyone else?” she asked, screwing up her face.

Faith grunted in annoyance. “I put my heels on this morning, and my feet rebelled. I got flats on,flats,” she said in disgust.

“Morning, Jen,” Hope said, handing her a breakfast bar on the way in. “Don’t tell anyone,” she whispered loud enough for Evie to hear.

“Got it,” Jennifer said, looking over her shoulder at Evie before she walked into the garden to eat her contraband.

“That’s cool, right?” Hope asked.

“If it gives me five minutes just to decompress, it is,” Evie said, frowning. “God, I’m the world’sbestparent.”

“Nope, that would be me,” Hope said, grabbing a mug of coffee and a chair. “I gave her the breakfast bar to buy her affections.”

Faith held up her hand. “I blackmail her with video games.”

Amy chuckled. “She keeps catching me swearing. I think I’ve taught her a few choice words and phrases that might embarrass you in polite company – sorry.”

Evie waved it away. “Trust me; she’s probably heard worse from Serendipity and me, and it’s not like I’m in polite company.” She grinned at the others.

True chuckled. “Well, she’s seen a naked man because of me.”

“Back, not front,” Evie said with a slight shrug. “We’ve all got butts.”
