“Eloise,” Lex said.

“Uh-oh,” Drew said, shaking his head. “That crazy witch.”

Heath looked up at his beta, but Drew didn’t say more, and then he returned his attention to the vampire. “Go on.”

“I knew your mate had a thing for the ship and pirates, so I asked Eloise to see what she could do.”

“And she did?” Heath asked.

“She seems to have conjured up a ghost from the deep,” Lex replied. “And, hey-presto, you slipped in under your mate’s defence radar and wooed her little pointy hat off.”

Heath wasn’t sure he heard things right. “You got the ghost?”

Lex shrugged. “You’re welcome.”

Heath unfolded his arms and pointed an accusing finger at the vampire. “Start running,” he growled.

For one moment, Lex stood there, a smile slowly dying on his face as he tried to figure out if the alpha was serious. “I have my car,” he said, wiggling his eyebrows.

“Start –running,” Heath growled, taking a step toward the vampire.

“I’d make it fast,” Drew said with a glee-filled chuckle at the thought of the alpha and vampire going head-to-head again.

“You’re serious?” Lex asked.

Heath couldn’t hold on to the deep rumble of a growl that rolled from him. “Deadly.”

The vampire was gone a heartbeat later, and the alpha was following. Drew just hoped any tourists hanging around were all looking out to sea.

CHAPTER FIVE

~

Dani opened the backdoor and stepped outside. The kitchen was hotter than Hades, and she was hoping for a nice sea breeze to cool her down between batches of orders. She felt the breeze, lifted her arms, and closed her eyes as it fanned her body.

“Hey.”

The deep voice snapped her out of paradise and made her snap to attention. She recognised him immediately, even if a work shirt covered his broad, muscled chest that had been on display earlier.

With a tool belt around his lean hips and work boots, he looked different from the beach bum with the guitar she’d met that morning. “Guitar guy,” she said.

“Parker,” he said with an easy grin.

“That probably works better. Are you working on the guesthouse?” Hope filled them all in that morning at the meeting she’d been late for because she was talking to the guitar guy.

“No, this is what my band wears; we’ve got a gig,” Parker said, teasing her with a smile.

“Like the Village People for the new age,” Faith said, stepping outside and eyeing him from boots to tousled hair. “Let me guess, the cop?”

Dani giggled, and Parker saw the funny side. “Cowboy,” he replied.

“Well, go find your horse,” Faith said, shoeing him away. “Unless Dani wants to hear you play?” She flicked a smirk at her friend, and Dani almost choked.

“I’ve got a kitchen to run,” Dani said, turning on her heels and quickly escaping an awkward situation by going inside.

Faith raised her eyebrows at Parker. “Treat that one with kid gloves, or you’ll have me to answer to.”

“I was just saying hello,” Parker assured her. “We met this morning; I live next door.”
