Getting up as Lucien approached the table, I kissed him on either cheek and pointed him to a chair.

“Eris, this is my cousin, Lucien. Lucien, this is my fiancé, Eris.” I said taking a seat.

Lucien looked at her like he had just seen Christ.

“Remy, you did not tell me how beautiful she is.”

Eris, mesmerized by my charming cousin, melted in his gaze.

“He tends to forget that,” she said offering him her hand.

Once he kissed it like she was the pope, I said, “Okay, well that’s enough of that.”

Lucien looked at me. “Do I sense a little jealousy?”

I turned to Eris. “Pay no attention to what he says. He’s always had a thing for anything that belongs to me.”

“Do I belong to you?” Eris asked intrigued.

“You will,” I replied.

“I see,” she said amused. “Last time I checked, I don’t belong to anyone, and it is a pleasure to meet you, Lucien,” she said with a smile.

“The pleasure is all mine.”

“Okay!” I said breaking up whatever was going on.

“You are jealous! Who would have thought this was all it took?” Eris said with a chuckle.

“Yeah, well, like I said, I can see a path to happiness, and I’m willing to do what it takes to defend it.”

“I like this new you,” Eris said pleased. “And, if things don’t work out between the two of us, maybe the three of us should give it a try.”

“Enough!” I said fighting back my anger.

Eris laughed.

“Remy, relax,” Lucien said. “I am just very happy to meet the woman my favorite cousin will be spending the rest of his life with.”

“Yeah, I’m sure you are.”

“I am,” he said innocently.

“Anyway,” I said changing the topic. “I invited Lucien here today because he had an idea.”

“Yes,” Lucien said taking over. “I was thinking, since Remy will only be getting married once, I would like to throw him a party.”

“You mean a bachelor party?” Eris asked.

“Well, yes. But also something more formal. Something where our two families could get to know each other better.”

“Like an engagement party?” Eris confirmed.

“Yes! How do you say? An engagement party.”

Eris looked at me. “And you’re okay with this?”

“This is not my idea.”
