CHAPTER

Brice

After we got a callfrom Larson saying the satellite images that he was able to pick up showed that a blue SUV had been parked outside our property as well as a figure running towards it with a person slumped over their shoulder, I began to pray that we weren't tracking Lily’s lifeless body. “She’s alive, I know it, don't you lose any fucking faith about that over there, brother.”

Turning to look at Vance, I could see that he was trying really hard to believe in his own words. “I'm trying, brother. I'm just praying that for some unknown reason he doesn't kill her. But God help him if he ever lays a hand on her, I will never stop hunting him down until he's dead.”

“And I'll be right by your side if it comes down to that.” Vance added just as my phone went off.

“Walker, what do you have for us?” I said, answering on the Bluetooth.

He let out a heavy breath. “As much as I wanted it to be Vitale who took her, so we'd have a solid lead on her, I'm afraid that it wasn't him. He seemed genuinely surprised when I told him that she was taken today.”

“You really think that he's telling the truth?” Vance questioned.

“I have no reason not to believe that he wasn't. He seems to want her back with him where she belongs as he put

it.”

Both Vance and I traded glances, knowing that if we ever got her back that there was no way in hell that we would ever allow that to happen. “Did he say what the wire transfer to Gustavo was about then?” I asked.

“Personal information was the only answer he would give, said he thought Gustavo might have what he needed to find out, but didn't say what it was or if he in fact did. That damn lawyer of his kept mouthing off and then demanded we charge him or release him, and since we didn't have enough evidence to hold him, I had to let him walk.

Getting a beyond fucked up crazy idea I asked Walker. “Do you have a number to get a hold of Vitale?”

Vance looked over at me like I'd grown another head right before his eyes as Walker sat silent on the other end of the line. “Well yes, but why do you want it?” He questioned, sounding more than confused.

“If he is really not the one who took her and wants her back just as much as we do, why not use him to help us find her?”

“Because he probably won't help you just out of spite, but I'll text it to you now and you can try. Whatever you do, don't trust that piece of shit with any information he doesn't need, he will only use it against you.”

“Will do, and thanks again.” I disconnected the call, looking at a still stunned Vance sitting next to me.

“Are you seriously going to call him and try to get him to help us?”

“Why not? You said it yourself, if anyone can help, we need to take it.”

“Well yeah but I meant people we know and trust.”

“I guess it's time to see what it feels like to get in bed with the enemy.” Watching him shake his head, I placed the call.

“Hello?” The man on the other end answered.

“Is this Vitale Gatti?”

“Who wants to know?”

“My name is Brice, and I'm With Black Spade securities. Ever hear of us?”

We were met with silence for so long, I began to think he'd hung up when he finally answered. “I know who you are. Why are you calling me?”

“Because we have a mutual interest in common.”

“Oh yeah, and what exactly would that be?”

“Lillian Marchetti.”
