CHAPTER

Lily

Digging through thecupboards and refrigerator, I found all the ingredients I needed for the stuffed shells recipe that I’d

found on Pinterest. As I moved about the kitchen, getting everything together, I stopped for one very important tradition; a glass of wine to drink while I prepared the meal.

Wait.

I froze, wondering where the hell I'd heard that before.

“It's always a tradition for the cook to have a glass of wine or two while she prepares the meal.” I heard the woman's voice play over in my mind. Was she my mother? Grandmother?

“You okay in here?” Bruno's booming voice broke me out of my thoughts with a jump. “Sorry, didn't mean to startle you... again.”

“No it's fine,” I waved him off. “I was just in deep thought about something, but I'm fine, Bruno. Thanks for checking on me.” I smiled at the big lug I was starting to like having around. “How is... ah your situation?” I questioned, gesturing to his crotch area.

Quickly realizing what I was asking, he straightened. “Oh, I'm fine. It'll take more than a bumpy horse ride to keep me down darlin,” he winked.

“I'll just bet.” I laughed

“Do you need any help with anything in here?”

I tilted my head with curiosity. “Do you know anything about cooking?”

“I know a few things. My mother taught me enough of the basics to be able to cook for myself.”

“Great, then I'll have you work on making the garlic bread and salad while I work on making these stuffed shells and get them into the oven.” Grabbing the bottle of wine, I turned back to him. “You drink wine? It is a tradition to have a glass while you cook.”

“I'm actually more of a beer guy myself, but sure why the hell not, I'll have a little bit. Can’t have too much, though, I need to stay alert until Vance and Brice get home.” Tipping my chin at him, I poured him a small amount in a glass as we got to work.

“Well, I think we did a good job here. Now all we have to do is wait for the stuffed shells to finish baking, and then heat

up the garlic bread when the guys get home, then we can eat.”

No sooner were the words out of my mouth and we both heard the alarm beeping from the front door being opened. Bruno gave me a signal to stay put where I was until he knew for sure that it was Vance and Brice walking in. It didn't take long to know it was them once the alarm code was entered, halting the sound just before their eyes land on Bruno and they busted up laughing.

“Yeah, yeah, laugh if up, assholes,” he said, flipping them off.

Grabbing his shoulder for support, Brice folded over, grabbing his stomach as he tried to get his words out. “Man, those pictures of you on that horse made all of our day.”

“Shit.” Was all Bruno replied, looking over at me.

“Sorry,” I said in a small voice, trying to give him my best apologetic puppy eyes.

“It's okay darlin, I'm used to these guys giving me a hard time, and it will be my turn to do it to them again real soon.”

Vance walked around the corner, seeming to be wiping actual tears off his face from laughing so hard before he began questioning Bruno. “Everything else go okay around here today?”

“Everything's zipped up tight.”

“Good, we need to have a word with Lily before dinner. Can you excuse us for a bit?” Vance asked.

He gave him a nod. “You got it, boss.”

Once Bruno was gone, Brice was the first one to approach me. Missed you today, baby.” His hand gripped the back of my neck, pulling me closer until our lips touched. Kissing me lightly at first, he deepened it to a full on make out session as we grabbed at one another, then that all too familiar feeling began to swirl around in my lower stomach.
