CHAPTER

Brice

When we got the callfrom Kelan, Vance directed Lily to a store, checking inside, he deemed it safe enough for her to wait in by herself while we took the call.

After Kelan informed us that he'd gotten the pictures and bio's on Vitale and Lily's family members and emailed them to us, Vance hung up the phone just as I turned to see that some guy had his hands on her inside the store.

“What the fuck?”

“What?” Vance asked, putting his phone back in his pocket.

“Some asshole has his hands on Lily.” I growled, taking off into the store before I could even hear Vance's response. Rounding the racks of clothes, I’d seen them behind, I only found Lily standing there with a pale look on her face. “Are you okay? Did he hurt you?”

Snapping out of her trance like state, she turned to look at me. “Huh, what?”

“Where did that guy go?” I asked her.

She pointed to the back of the store. “Back there somewhere.”

“I've got this,” Vance called out, heading the direction she pointed out.

“Are you sure you’re okay? You look like you've just seen a ghost.” I questioned, looking her over for any obvious injuries.

“I... yes I-I'm okay, he just scared me is all.” She answered as I pulled her in and hugged her, needing to make her feel safe again.

“How? What did he do to you?” I asked, ready to fuck someone's shit up for even thinking it was okay to put his hands on her.

She looked up at me. “It's not what he did. He didn't do anything to me. It's what he said and how he said it that gave me the creeps.”

“What did he say to you?”

“When we bumped into one another he apologized and I told him it was all my fault, because when I bumped into him I was busy looking to see if you guys were finished with your call yet. So I told him I wasn't looking where I was going... and he told me that I should be more aware of my surroundings because New York could be a dangerous place for someone like me. He said I never know who wants to do me any harm. But it was the way he said it, like it was a threat but not really a threat that creeped me out. There's something else.”

“What's that?”

“I think I know him.”

“Are you sure?” I questioned, hoping like hell that her family hadn't found her before we'd figured out just who it was that tried to make her disappear in the first place.

“I'm not positive, but his eyes felt... I don't know... familiar to me.”

“I couldn't find anyone out back. I looked down both ways of the back alley and didn't see anybody. But I did noticed some cameras back there though, so we need to get Kelan in on this and have him check all the cams around the area here to see if we can get a clear picture of him coming or going. Then we can have Lily see if she can identify him so we can figure out just

who this guy is.” Vance informed us, breathing hard like he just ran a race.

“Shit. You need to hear what happened between them. Have her tell you while I call Kelan and have him jump on that.

After I gave Kelan all the information he needed to tap into the cams in our immediate area, as well as a one mile radius around us, I hung up just as Vance and Lily walked out of the store. “Did she fill you in?”

“Yeah, and I don't like it one bit. I have a strong feeling that this guy is going to have something to do with one of the families.”

Noticing Lily's silence, I tried to find out just where her head was at with what just went down. “Hey.”

Looking up, she smiled at me weakly. “Hey.”

“Are you okay? You haven't said much.”
