CHAPTER

Agent Larson

"Okay, we’re set. I've got him showing up at eleven tonight at the old abandoned warehouse on fifth we took down in a drug bust last year."

"Do you think he suspects that we are on to him?" Agent Walker asked.

"I think anything is possible. Which is why I have the few men I know I can trust headed over there to stake the place out right now. We are dealing with an extremely dangerous individual with a lot power here, so we need to be smart about how we go at this. If I know him like I think I do, we are walking into a trap tonight."

"Do we know where Agent Jackson is?" Walker questioned, making me realize I hadn't heard back from Vance yet.

"Shit!" I shouted out, charging back into my office.

"What is it?" Walker asked, running in after me.

"I left Vance a message over an hour ago about Jackson's whereabouts and I haven't heard back from him yet. He should have gotten back to me by now. Shit! Shit! Shit!" I tried dialing the number, getting his voicemail again. "Vance you need to call me back as soon as you get this. I think Agent Jackson has figured out your location. If you can't call me back, get your asses out of there! Get out of there now!" Hanging up the phone, I tried to think of any way I could get help to them, and then his face popped into my head.

Tanner.

I remembered Vance and Brice talking about their friend, who was a Sheriff up there in Shelby Montana.

Getting the number, I called. "Sheriff Tanner here."

"Sheriff, it's Agent Larson with the FBI. I worked with Hudson and Vance from Black Spade to get Presley back earlier this year."

"Yes, I remember them telling me about you. What's going on? Has something happened?"

After I explained to him about the set up tonight and that Agent Jackson was closing in on their location, I was relieved when he informed me that they already knew and were tracking Jackson themselves. "I'm picking Brice and Carter up first thing tomorrow morning and they’re heading out to a new location."

"Thank God! I haven't heard from Vance in over an hour and I couldn't get a hold of him on the phone so I'm glad to hear that they are already aware of the situation. After I deal with things here, I plan on linking up with them as soon as I can. If you could pass that on when you see them, I would really appreciate it." Hearing nothing on the other end, I asked. "Tanner, are you still there?"

"Somethings not right. Vance always answers his phone or calls back. I'm not waiting around until tomorrow; I'm going up there now and check things out for myself."

"Let me know what you find out as soon as you can."

"Will do." Tanner disconnected our call, leaving me with that feeling to churn in my gut.

We might have figured things out too late to save them.
