CHAPTER

22

Keira

After we'd gotten offthe plane in Montana, we all three headed down to collect our bags when I heard a man's voice that I recognized as Vance's yelled out, "sonofabitch!" Looking in the direction he was walking in, I saw a man that I wouldn't even describe as a man, but more of a God, wearing a Sheriff's uniform.

Holy shit!

This guy was just as tall as Porter and Vance, and just as built. These brothers of his were all definitely from good stock, that was for sure.

Looking at me and Porter with those intense gray eyes, he walked up to give Porter a back-slapping man hug just like he did Vance before turning to me. "This must be Keira," he said, leaning down to shake my hand, keeping his eyes on my face and no where else.

"Yes, this is my little lady here," Porter squeezed me to his side.

"Well it's very nice to meet you Keira, I'm Tanner. I wish my wife, Evangeline, could have been here to help get you settled in at the cabin with me, but she's very pregnant with our baby right now, so she had to stay home today. Not to say that she didn't give me every instruction twenty times over on what I needed to show you when we get there," he chuckled.

"Nice to meet you as well, Tanner. Thank you again for letting me stay there, and please thank your wife as well. I hope I'm not putting either of you out."

Straightening up, his face turned to stone. "Absolutely not. I would do anything for Porter or any of my other brothers should they need me. So trust me when I say, we are both happy to help in any way possible. Just like this guy helped my wife and me last year," he pointed at Vance.

Wondering what went down there, Porter seemed to read my thoughts and leaned down to whisper in my ear. "I'll tell you about it later."

After we'd gathered our bags, we left the airport and made the drive to the cabin, I looked around at all the beautiful land as the three of them discussed their strategy on keeping me safe. Going over all escape routes and who to call in case help was needed at the cabin. As I listened to them, I felt a calm settle over of me.

Makes no sense, right? My life being in danger and all.

But when I really thought about it, my life had always been in some kind of danger being a Senator's daughter. When I was kidnapped by Pablo's men, that was probably the most scared I'd ever been in my life, and then who shows up? Porter. Even though we weren't speaking at the time, a sense of safety came over me just knowing he was there. Porter had always given that to me.

Suddenly my thoughts were interrupted by a stabbing pain in my head as a flash of a woman, I didn't know, was being beaten in front of me. It caused me to hiss in pain as I grabbed a hold of my head.

"Keira, are you okay?" Porter asked in a worried tone, wrapping his arms around me.

"I think so. I just got a bad headache all the sudden for some reason." I answered, not telling him about the flash of the woman in my head I didn’t know. It didn't even feel like a memory but more like something I’d seen on a TV. But I couldn't even remember watching a show anything like that, ever.

He kissed me reassuringly on the forehead. "It’s probably just all the stress catching up to you. We need to get you settled in and relaxed."

Knowing there had to be more to what just happened, but having no real way of knowing, I just melted into him for now. "Yeah, you're probably right."

When we finally made it to the cabin, I was taken aback at just how nice it was. This was no small country cabin; it was definitely a lot bigger. "This place is beautiful Tanner," I said, looking it over as we got out of the car.

"Thank you. My father built it when I was a kid, and I just finished remodeling it a few years back. But Evangeline put the finishing touches on it."

As we walked up to the front porch and into the cabin, the first thing I spotted and fell in love with was the floor to ceiling windows that ran the length of the back wall. "Oh my God! This view is incredible!" I blurted out, headed for the windows like a moth to a flame.

Chuckling, Tanner said, "you sound just like my wife. That was exactly what she first loved about this cabin."

Turning to look back at him, I smiled. "She has impeccable taste then."

After Tanner gave us a tour of the cabin and showed us where to find everything we needed, he made his way back to the front door. "Now don't you two hesitate to call me if anything goes wrong. But like I told you on the way up here, Joe next door can help you out until I get here. He may be older in age, but that man is a damn good shot."

“Will do.” Porter assured him. Walking out the door behind him, he looked back at me as Vance made his way outside also. "We'll be right back."

Nodding my head at him, I heard Tanner yell. "Nice to meet you again, Keira!"

"It was nice to meet you too, Tanner!" I yelled back as Porter shut the door behind them.
