“What’s going on?” Ryder asked, rubbing his hands together.

“My father has some ideas about new home layouts. He and Elise. Again, they can do that and then I’ll work around adjustments with them, but you know they like to have set plans to show potential buyers.”

“Let’s let Trent get to work,” Drake said. “We’ve bugged him enough. And something tells me it’s not going to end any time soon.”

He caught the smirk on Drake’s face and the look sent to him. Yeah, even their kids knew what their fathers were doing. They could probably figure out who it was with too, but he was going to be one step ahead of them.

When the five men were out his door, Janine turned to him. “That was entertaining. And it’s good to know we’ve got space for that many men. Big men too.”

“I thought the same thing,” he said. “Not like anyone was taking a seat, but they had more than enough room to stand around and not be on top of each other.”

He wanted his clients to be comfortable here.

“That’s always good to have,” Janine said. “I got thinking. What are your thoughts about having some drinks available? Not just the water cooler, but maybe bottles of tea or soda. Not a lot, but sometimes you get people in here that are emotional.”

“On my list of things,” he said.

“Seriously?” Janine asked.

“Hang on.” He went back to his office, sat down at this desk, found the file and sent it to her and then came back out. “Did you get what I just sent you?”

She looked down when her computer dinged, then started to laugh. “I can get on board with cookies.”

“It’s a thought,” he said. “Not sure we need them right now or even daily.”

“I get it. It’s a nice touch to have out. And I see you’ve got another coffee maker on here. Is that for clients with one-cup servings?”

“Yes,” he said. “Some things I was holding off with.”

“Because you don’t want to overspend,” Janine said. “I get it. I’ll add it to my list and when you give me the go-ahead I’ll take care of it.”

“You can do the coffee and drinks. It’s not like they will go bad and won’t be wasted. It’s not a huge amount of money in the grand scheme of things.”

He didn’t want to be cheap either. He might have spent more than he wanted on decor, but the place looked great and Janine did a super job.

“I’ll get to it this week,” Janine said. “I can’t have your bills be too high or your mother will call and start questioning them more.”

“She’s questioning my expenses?” he asked. “She hasn’t said a word to me.”

Maybe he should have Megan do it, as he didn’t think she’d be as nosy.

“Nothing major,” Janine said. “Some of the invoices were faded and she couldn’t make out what they said. She just wants to make sure she is putting the expenses in the right categories, she said. I’ve been doing the billing for you and we’ve been talking about that so she has an understanding of the different rates for services. I think she thought everything was a flat hourly fee.”

“Oh,” he said. “That’s fine. I could have answered those questions.”

“She doesn’t want to bother you,” Janine said. “She called last week. I guess she had a day off or something and was going through things.”

He knew his mother was doing his books at night for him, but she’d want to make it right too. Just like Megan would have to do them at night.

“If things continue to pick up, I’ll be able to hire someone to handle all of that,” he said. “Then just getting a CPA firm to look things over a few times a year too.”

“If this first month is any indication, you’ll be looking for that person sooner than you think,” Janine said.

He hoped so. Even the thought of bringing on another attorney would be great, but he’d have to pay yet another salary without knowing if the work was there steadily. No reason to jump too soon too fast. He wasn’t normally like that and told himself to slow his roll.

Then he went back to his office shaking his head. That was something his father said and it was an old saying too.
