“We’ll play it day by day.” I kissed the top of his head, cherishing the moment. We shared one last lingering look before parting ways. As I walked to my car, the memory of our kiss was still fresh on my lips, filling me with a sense of anticipation, warmth, and satisfaction.

This was just the start of something beautiful, and I couldn’t wait to see where it would lead us.

The lush green grass of the park lay before us, our bodies still tingling from the adrenaline rush of our weekly basketball game. In today’s three-on-three match-up, Leo and I had played on opposite teams.

That had been a mistake that I will not make again.

Leo knew my playing style too well, and every time I had the ball, he was there on top of me, his aggressive defense tactics bordering on fouling me and keeping me from scoring.

Any other time, this would have pissed me off, and we might have argued over it. But today, each time Leo’s strong body pressed against mine, keeping me from the basket—my body reacted in the worst way possible, and I had to constantly refocus on the game (and not my semi-hard erection).

Needless to say, my team lost.

But now, stretched out on the hill with our tacos, it was difficult to contain my excitement. Tonight was date number two, and it had been mine to plan. A stroke of good luck fell my way—as soon as I learned that Whiskey River Revival, Leo’s favorite band, was playing this weekend downtown and that Leo hadn’t been able to score tickets, I was determined to make it happen. “So, big guy—I’ve got something to show you,” I said, nudging his leg with my foot.

Leo grunted and rolled over onto his side, propped up on one elbow. “Yeah?” he asked, his face still ruddy pink from our game. “You’re not still mad about me fouling the shit out of you, are you?” he asked with a knowing grin.

“Furious, but you’ll pay for that later, buddy. Right now, I’m talking about tonight.”

Leo sat up with a grunt. “You finally gonna tell me what we’re doing?”

I nodded and pulled out my phone, tapping and scrolling before handing it to him. The symbols for the ticket barcodes stood boldly against the bright background. “Show starts at eight.” Leo’s eyes widened in surprise. “Did I do good?”

Leo stared at the screen for a moment, then back up at me, his mouth open in awe. “No way. You got tickets? I tried, but they sold out so fast. This is... this is amazing, Ben!” His genuine excitement was written all over his face, and my heart swelled with satisfaction.

“I’ve got my contacts,” I replied with a grin, tucking my phone back into my pocket. “I’ll pick you up at 7 pm for the concert. Does that sound good?”

Leo raised an eyebrow in surprise. “Oh? I can just meet you downtown. You don’t have to drive out of your way to get me.”

“Nope.” I shook my head. “Let me come get you.” I smiled, anticipation coursing through my veins. “I’ve got a couple of surprises in store.”

“All right,” Leo agreed with a playful glint in his eyes. “I’ll see you at seven.”

I took a deep breath to steady my nerves as I knocked on Leo’s door. Right on time, seven sharp. In the background, a sleek black car idled patiently. I swallowed hard, willing my nerves to settle as I waited.

The door swung open, and there stood Leo, effortlessly handsome in dark jeans and the maroon shirt he’d worn to Maya’s party—the one that perfectly accentuated his broad shoulders. His eyes darted behind me, landing on the waiting car with a mix of surprise and curiosity.

“An Uber?” Leo asked, his eyebrows raised. “You didn’t have to do that, Ben. I can drive if you don’t want to.”

I shook my head. “I told you—I always pick up my dates. Especially for special occasions. Besides, parking is gonna be a nightmare. And this way, we can spend even more time together on the way there and back.” I held out my elbow. “Your chariot awaits, sir.”

Leo chuckled and shook his head. “Well, aren’t you a gentleman.” He stepped outside, locking the door behind him as he took my arm. “But I like how you think.”

I led the way to the Uber, opening the door with an exaggerated flourish. Sliding into the car, Leo grinned at me. “Why thank you, kind sir.”

As I settled in beside him, our thighs pressed together, and I pulled out a small tin from my pocket. Leo’s eyes followed my movements with curiosity. “What’s that?”

“A little something to set the mood first,” I replied, popping open the tin to reveal a row of colorful gummies inside. I extended the container towards Leo.

A knowing smile spread across Leo’s face. He recognized the little treat we’d enjoyed together in past celebrations once we outgrew vaping our cannabis. “Are these the peppies or the sleepies?”

I chuckled. Leo could never remember which strain did what. “The pink ones are the peppier ones. The blue ones are for mellowing out.” Leo reached for the calmer, more chill indica gummy. I selected the same and popped it into my mouth.

The drive to the venue was a pleasant blur, our bodies leaning into each other in the backseat of the car, soaking in the warm buzz from the gummies, enjoying the mix of excitement and relaxation that washed over us. Leo’s long arms wrapped around me as the city lights whizzed by outside the windows, their glow reflecting in his eyes. The quiet moment of anticipation and shared excitement hung heavy in the air, the undercurrent of tension between us growing more palpable with each passing second.
