“Because you’re going to help.”

“Oh, no! I told you, I’m a terrible cook. I can bake cookies if they’re cut and drop, but if you let me in that kitchen with you, it’s not my fault when we burn down the house.”

Declan chuckled. “I’ll take my chances.”

“Can I make a small request?”

“Maybe,” he said, drawing the word out.

“Can I record this? Not you, but me trying to cook and you giving me directions. You can be completely off camera, but I haven’t done a single new thing for my channel and I think this could be at the very least entertaining.” Holly sighed. “I’m struggling to find a new direction for my social media and I’m pretty much grasping at straws.”

Declan didn’t respond right away, unloading the groceries and putting away what he wouldn’t use while he considered. Finally, he nodded. “All right, set it up, but only you. I don’t want even my elbow on camera.”

“I got it.”

While he prepped his area, Declan kept stealing glances at Holly while she carried over first one ring light and then the other, adjusting them. When she flipped on the bright white lights, he waved a slice of cheese at her. “Perfect. I needed more light.”

“Yes, because it’s all about you.”

“Hey, I will revoke your social media pass into my kitchen.”

“Wait a second, your kitchen?”

Declan turned around like he was searching the room. “Do you see anyone else in here offering to make you dinner?”

“I apologize. As you were.”

“All right, I need a casserole pan and a pot.”

“In the cupboard next to the oven,” she said, snapping her phone into the holder attached to her ring light.

“I thought your thing was an elf that does stunts.”

“It was, but I’m trying to find a different niche. I can’t jump off rocks and do back flips out of planes forever.”

“Back flips out of…” Declan shook his head, retrieving the pot and pan. “You’re out of your mind.”

“Hey, don’t be a closed-minded jerk. The guys from Jackass were doing wild and wacky stunts long before I ever picked up a camera.”

“Who?” he asked.

Holly rubbed her temples as if he was giving her a headache. “MTV. Reality stunt show. Pop culture.”

He didn’t say anything, and she pulled out her phone, tapping away at the screen. She pressed play on a trailer of a bunch of guys launching themselves in a shopping cart down a hill and Declan snorted. “Yeah, I’m sure they were geniuses.”

“What are you trying to say?” she asked, crossing her arms over her chest, her phone still in her hand.

Well, this went south fast.

“I’m sorry. I just meant why would you risk your life doing crazy things like that?”

“Fame? Money? The thrill of it all?”

“I think I’ll stay boring and broke.”

Holly laughed. “To each their own, but I’m done with that stuff anyway. Gotta keep things fresh.”

“Have you ever thought about giving up the social media stuff?”
