“Where?”

Holly put her phone away with a shrug. “I guess you’d better keep looking.”

“It’s not anywhere a customer will find him?” Declan asked.

“No, just you.”

“Thank God. I could just imagine that conversation.”

Holly cleared her throat. “Speaking of conversations, that thing you said about your mom earlier teaching you to go after your happiness? Do you talk to her often?”

“I’ve talked to her recently, but my relationship with my mom is complicated and not something I want to get into.” Declan leaned closer to her, his forearms resting on top of his thighs. “But we can talk about other things, if you really want to get to know me better. Do you, Holly?”

Her breath caught when he said her name in that deep, husky tone.

“I—sure.”

“The first thing you need to know about me is I really—” he got closer, his mouth nearly brushing her ear—“really love tacos.”

Quick as The Flash, he snatched one of her tacos off her plate.

“Hey! Thief!” she squealed, climbing onto the rung of his stool and leaning against him for leverage as she tried to retrieve her taco from him.

He held it above his head out of reach, shaking with laughter. “What? You didn’t know this but I can eat seven tacos.”

“And I can eat four.” She made a wild grab for the taco and it cracked, spilling its contents all over the two of them. Holly got an onion in her eye and cried out, swiping at her face.

“You okay?” Declan asked, his voice trembling with presumed laughter.

“No! Not only did you waste a taco, but I think you blinded me with a hunk of onion. It freaking burns.”

“Come on.” Firm hands gripped her waist, helping her off the stool. Holly opened her good eye as Declan led her by the hand to the sink. He flipped the faucet on and while he adjusted the temperature, said, “Go ahead and wash your hands to get all the juices off, and then we’ll rinse your eye.”

“Ugh, just don’t look at me while I do this. It’s going to be a mess.”

“What do you mean?”

“I put on makeup today. Once I start washing it off, I’m going to look like an angry raccoon.”

“I’ll watch for claws and teeth.”

“You’re a funny guy,” Holly grumbled, cupping her hands under the warm water and attempting to keep her eye open so she could splash it. “This is why I could never wear contacts or do eye drops. I hate things going in my eyes.”

“Like onions?”

“Hey, you might think this is hilarious, but you owe me a taco. With an additional plate of nachos for pain and suffering.”

“You can deduct the cost of said pain and suffering from my wages.”

“Don’t think I won’t.” Holly splashed a few more times and blinked, clearing away the water. “Okay, I think I’m good.”

“Ah, I see what you meant about angry raccoon.”

Holly narrowed her eyes and grabbed the sink hose, flipping the switch. “Jerk!”

Before Declan could react, she got him right in the face, spraying the front of his shirt until he reached out and wrestled the hose from her. She screamed as he doused her over the head, weak with laughter as Holly wiped the wet strands from her face.

Someone pounded on the front door, but when Holly tried to take a step to answer it, she slipped on the wet floor. Declan caught her with his arms under her pits, and she looked up at him, her feet sliding across the slick floor.
