“Jax?” Her voice is a throaty whimper over the backdrop of the loud city street but the parking lot is quiet, not a soul around.

“Yeah, baby?” I groan.

“I thought you promised me cupcakes.”

Pulling back, a chuckle erupts from my chest, and she joins me. Our laughter fills up the empty space in my heart, the one I didn’t know needed filling until she came along.

I pull my fingers out of her shorts and into my mouth, licking up the hint of her flavor. “I did, and I always keep my promises. But there’s nothing that tastes better than you, and I haven’t even taken a bite.”

CHAPTER4

LEXI

“So, let me get this straight.”I cross my legs and rest my elbows on the table of the small, cozy coffee shop, tucking my chin in my palms. “You just sleep around with random women and you’re happy?” I knew he was a player! It figures I’d be attracted to another one.Yeah, girlfriend, you sure know how to pick the right man.

“Hell, babe, you make it sound like it’s a bad thing. Maybe you should try it.” He flashes me a wicked grin, sending a jolt straight between my legs. His smile will be my undoing. It has the power to start and end wars.

“Ha! Yeah, okay.” I shake my head. “That kind of thing isn’t for me.”

“Don’t knock it until you try it.” He winks cheekily. “You sure as hell wouldn’t be going a year without being fucked if you took a page out of my book.”

I shuffle uncomfortably in the high-back purple leather chair, taking a small bite of my chocolate cupcake. All my thoughts have now zeroed in on him and me naked and on this black table. I uncross and then cross my legs again, pressing my thighs together, remembering the feeling of his fingers on my panties, touching me so expertly that I needed to come. I don’t know why I stopped him, maybe part of me was afraid of the feelings he was bringing out in me.

“I promise I’m not an asshole. They know where I stand before anything happens,” he continues, sipping on his iced coffee, oblivious to how turned on I am. “I don’t lead them on.” He shrugs nonchalantly. “It works for me.”

He gives me one of those panty-melting smiles again. Said panties have officially melted. Shit, it’s warm in here. I run a hand up and down my neck as though that will soak me with cool air.Why in the world did I order a hot latte?

He picks up his drink again and sucks on the straw nice and slow, his lips wrapping tightly around it while his eyes dance straight into mine. My belly tightens, an invisible rope twisting within me. A loud noise bangs around in my ears and I realize it’s my heart beating overtime from the heat wafting from his gaze. I bet he’s doing this on purpose.

I really do need to get fucked. Ever since the last time I saw him, he’s been all I could think about. Every night as I crawled into bed and touched myself, it was him I saw in bed with me. Those big, strong hands touched me in places long forgotten. His thick, muscular body took control, bending me in ways that had me screaming his name unashamed.

I pick up my cup and down half of it.

“Thirsty?” His teasing tone gets me even more turned on.

I place my cupcake and drink down, reluctantly looking back at his face. “A little.”

He laughs, folding his arms over his chest while staring at my lips a little too long before his gaze slides back up to my eyes.

“Well, anyways, I’m glad that whole sleeping around thing is working for you. I mean maybe you have the right idea. Relationships suck anyways.”

“Oh, yeah? Why’s that?” He picks up a brownie and slides it between his lips. I can’t help but gawk. He eats it as though he’s making love to it with his mouth. I’ve never wanted to be a piece of food this badly before. What the fuck is wrong with me?

I pick up my latte and quickly drink the rest of the warm liquid, needing to smother the fire coursing its way down to settle between my legs like a flaming torch. Unfortunately, drinking this damn coffee does no such thing.

“Did you hear me, babe?”

“What?”Did he ask something? Oh God, I’m totally embarrassing myself.Ugh!

The corner of his mouth tugs into an arrogant smile. “I asked why relationships are so bad.”

“Oh. I just haven’t had much luck there, so I guess I’m still a little bitter.”

“What happened?” He narrows his eyes and scoots closer to the table as though he’s genuinely curious.

“My fiancé, Aiden…he ah…cheated a little over a year ago.”

His brows bend upward, and he stops eating, the brownie freezing mid-air.
