Phoebe leaned into him, sliding her arms around his neck. He immediately encircled her waist and pulled her flush against him. Her leg went over his hip, his knee went between her thighs, and suddenly the kiss took on energy that sizzled through his body.

He couldn't remember the last time he'd been wrapped around a woman. And he knew he'd never been in a bed with a woman who called to him like she did. He wanted to be here. He wanted to kiss her forever. His entire soul was attuned to her every breath, to the heat of her body, to the way her fingers drifted through his hair.

He angled his head, deepening the kiss, and she responded with the same intensity coursing through him. Her breasts were against his chest, a glorious connection. He slid his hand over her hip, and along her thigh as he kissed down the side of her neck. He wanted to consume her, but at the same time, he needed to take it luxuriously slow, experiencing every kiss. Every moment. Every first touch of each part of her body.

There'd never be another first intimacy with Phoebe, and he needed to immerse himself in it. Her scent. The curve of her hip. The taste of her lips. The warmth of her breath.

Phoebe flattened her hand on his chest, over his heart, and he paused to put his hand over hers, holding her close. "Yes," he whispered.

"I never want to leave your arms," she said softly. "I can't believe how good it feels to be tangled up with you."

He smiled. "I feel the same way."

She searched his face. "Really?"

"Yeah." He tightened his grip on her waist, then kissed her again. A kiss that was more intense. Less safe. Less contained.

Phoebe pulled him close, pressing her body against his as she kissed him back. She slid her hand under his shirt, and he sucked in his breath at the feel of her palm on his bare skin. Incredible. Fire. Emotions rushed through him, and he tugged her shirt up, palming her ribs—

His phone rang, startling them both.

He swore. "That's my family's ring. I have to answer it."

Phoebe bolted upright, checking the phone propped up on the desk. "They're still baking. They're okay."

She collapsed back onto Jacob's chest as he dug his phone out of his pocket and answered. It was Lucas. "What's up?"

"You guys gotta make a choice."

Jacob frowned. "What choice?" He put the phone on speaker so Phoebe could hear. "What's up?"

"I know that neither of you like phones, but just wanted to give you a heads up that FaceTime goes both ways. Which means everyone can see what you two are doing over there. Either you guys need to stop, or we're turning off FaceTime. No one needs to see that."

Oh, crap.

Phoebe threw her arms over her face and started laughing, which made the tension dissolve from Jacob's body. "Tell me that Annie didn't see that," she said, still laughing.

"She's obsessed with chocolate at the moment, but I can't promise anything." Lucas was chuckling. "Look, Phoebe, my brother has been depressingly solo for a long time, so I'm all about you guys having a little fun over there. We have Annie covered. Stay as long as you want, but I need to turn off the FaceTime."

"I've been thriving as a lone captain of my ship," Jacob said, still laughing. "Nothing depressing about it."

"What about that time when—"

"All right," Jacob cut him off as Phoebe started laughing again. "I'm trying to win this woman over. Don't be telling all my secrets before I have her secured. Just say great things about me."

Lucas chuckled. "Phoebe, all kidding aside, Jacob's a fantastic human being. If your weird matches his weird, and it seems like it does, then you couldn't find a better person to let into your life." He paused. "But if you don't get him, because he's different, then get off that bed right now and don't mess with him. He can't take it."

Phoebe's eyes widened, and her gaze shot to Jacob's face.

Jacob's amusement faded. "Didn't need that last bit, Lucas. Hanging up now."

"Right. Dinner will be in an hour. We won't expect to see you before then." Lucas hung up the phone, and then a moment later, the FaceTime call ended.

Jacob set the phone on the bed beside him. "You want to head back to the house?" He figured she did. Losing eye contact with Annie would give her reason to get up, as would Lucas's little speech.

But she didn't get up right away. "You're trying to win me over? Or was that just you teasing Lucas?"

He swore under his breath. "I'm not as fucked up as he made it sound."
