“They didn’t even see it coming,” Bishop said.

“No one could,” I said. “That’s how us Saints operate.”

We clinked our glasses together.

“Just like the old days,” Deacon said. “No matter what, when we put our heads together, there’s no stopping us.”

“And destroying the Hunters is just the beginning,” Bishop added. He took a big swig of his drink and slammed his glass down on the bar.

“So that leaves our calendar completely clear to take care of another matter,” I said.

Bishop nodded. “Speaking of which, where is Brook?”

“She went to the hospital to visit with Tuesday. She’ll be out of the house for an hour or so.”

“Good,” I said.

Deacon looked from Bishop to me. “What’s up? Why the secrecy?”

“Like Bishop said, we now have time to look into other matters.”

Deacon’s eyes widened. “Did that dance studio fire remind you of another disaster years ago?”

I nodded. “Of course, it did.”

“The explosion that almost killed Aurora, right?” Deacon said.

Bishop and I looked at him.

“What?” he said. “What did I say?”

“Aurora,” Bishop said. “It was so long ago.”

“But we never forgot,” I added.

“We want to look into what happened,” Bishop said. “Like... seriously look into it.”

Deacon nodded. “Yeah,” he muttered softly. “I still shudder at the thought of sending that girl to the barn to get our stuff... our stuff!” He emptied his glass and poured some more. “Why didn’t we go and get our stuff ourselves?”

“She insisted, remember?” Bishop said.

“Shit,” Deacon said before taking a big gulp. “She was just some nerdy kid who wanted to hang out with us. We should have known better.”

“Deacon,” I said, “we didn’t know what was going to happen. No one could have known what would happen.”

“But there is something interesting that we uncovered recently,” Bishop said.

“About that night?”

He shrugged. “Sort of.”

“Well, quit beating around the bush and let me hear it.”

Bishop shot me a knowing grin then turned back to Deacon. “Aurora...?”

“Yeah?”

“It’s Brook.”
