"She's way better at this than you are," she rolls her eyes at me.

"Fine," I concede as I lift a corner of my red silky dress and head out of the dressing room.

As I close the door behind me, I feel someone's hands on my shoulders. "Jen?"

I turn to see Matt standing there, his face pale, white. "What's wrong?"

"Kyle's not here."

"What do you mean he's not here?" I ask as I run a hand over my face. I'm already exhausted and the wedding hasn't even started yet. "He was supposed to be here at 4:30."

"Yeah," Matt licks his lips nervously. "And now it's 5:45."

Shit.

I feel my heart thud in my chest. I run down the hallway in my heels, Matt following behind me. When I reach Mom, I ask her to go check on Audra, try to solve at least one of our problems at the moment. Then, I rush out to my car, grab my purse from under the seat. My cell phone is tucked inside. I grab it and see there are no missed calls or text messages.

I immediately dial Kyle's number as Matt paces nervously in front of me, his hands tucked into the black dress pants of his tux. It rings and rings and rings.

No answer.

My hands start sweating, my pulse quickens, I want to throw up. "He's not answering."

I send a text message telling him to call me.

"Do you think something bad happened?" Matt asks.

I place both my hands on his shoulders, feel the tears welling in my eyes.

Goodbye, Jenny.

His face was unreadable all day. He was hiding something from me. I just...

He made love to me in the shower.

It was different.

It was...it was too...final.

Everything starts to get blurry as the tears collect in my eyes.

"I don't think he's coming," I manage to get out.

Matt's face falters. "Why? Why not?"

"It doesn't matter." I push the tears away and decide I'm not dealing with whatever I think is happening right now. "I will be your best man."

"You're Audra's maid of honor," Matt reminds me. "You can't do both."

I nod my head. "I can and I will. I'll carry both rings. I'll give a speech. I'll...do whatever I have to."

Matt's fingers find my chin. "Jen..."

"Don't," I shake my head, begging him not to make me say it. "I can't think about him right now. Or I might fall apart."

I leave Matt standing behind me, his face grim. It doesn't take him long to figure out what's going on. "Where is he? What happened this morning?"

"I don't know," I yell at Matt as I grip my dress in my fingers. "Gone. I don't know. He's gone. He's not coming."
