“Yes.” I nodded tightly without turning around.

“You have a message you want me to deliver?” she asked. “Or cash you need to collect,” she added snidely.

“No.” I shook my head. I wanted to get into it with her, but I had no right to Champion. Anyway, Twila’s low opinion of me didn’t matter.

I knew who I was and what Champion meant to me. My note told him what was allowable. Now, I needed to go.

Champion

MY ALARM WENT off, and I groaned when I remembered why I’d set it so early. I had a morning meeting with Knight and Knight Associates.

Well, I had one with Twila, since her father, Carl, and her uncle, Carter, were out of town. I would have preferred to put it off until they returned, but I had an expiring contract with the Lonestars. The time was now, and not just for my contract. I needed to get things straight with Electra too.

I rubbed my eyes. Stretching, I stirred up her jasmine and orange scent. My cock went rock hard and my lips curved. She was in my bed. I could have her before I started my day. Popping open my eyes, I reached for her.

“What the fuck?” I cursed, sat up, and cursed again when I saw that Electra’s side of the bed was empty.

“Electra?” I called out and flicked on the lamp just as a knock sounded on my bedroom door.

What the hell? I swung my gaze that way, my eyes widening as Twila entered.

“Hey,” she said, looking uneasy and maybe guilty.

“Where is she?” Frowning, I sat up.

“You mean the stripper?” she asked, her tone snide and condescending.

“I think the term would be exotic dancer since she doesn’t strip completely nude.”

I raked a hand through my hair. Keeping the sheet over my erection, I frowned at Carl’s daughter, who was only a year older than Electra but acted much younger.

“You’re too early for our meeting.” My brows drew together. “Is Electra downstairs?”

“She was downstairs,” she said. “But she took off.”

Fuck. I threw back the sheet.

Twila gasped seeing me in just my boxers, but that was too damn bad. If she wanted to step up and have a position in her father’s firm, she was going to have to become accustomed to seeing his clients—most of whom were Lonestars football players—how we came, which was in various stages of undress most of the time.

“She left you this.” Twila came closer, waving a piece of paper.

I snatched it, read it, and got angry as fuck. I didn’t accept temporary with Electra. I never did.

Hearing a car door slam outside, I stomped across the room and cranked open the blinds that overlooked the front of the house.

“Electra.” I exhaled my frustration, watching her fold into the passenger side of an old sedan that was more compound material than metal. The engine backfired as it chugged away.

I released the blind and bit back more frustration, finding Twila right behind me. I didn’t have the patience for dealing with her.

“Simon Morris called the office this morning.” Twila shifted her weight from one navy pump to the other. “He wants you to sign the new contract he sent over before your current one expires.”

“I know what he wants,” I snarled, and she took a step back. Simon was going to have to wait. “Can you give me a moment, Twila?”

“Miss Knight, if you please.” Her chin came up to a stubborn Electra-like angle.

“Twila.” I scoffed. “I’m in my underwear, and you’re in my bedroom. We can talk about how you wish to be addressed downstairs after I’m dressed.”

“Right.” Blushing, she spun around. Her pinpoint heels struck the hardwood floors with her displeasure.
