Page 41 of Making Her Theirs

“I think this has nothing to do with potential income but everything to do with the woman asleep in your bed.”

Lachlan’s eyes blaze, blue and fierce.

“It’s nothing, Finn. Drop it.”

No, I’m going to drag it out of Lachlan. I’m intrigued. Hell, I’m more than interested. Color me curious.

“Does Knox know?”

A fierce shake of his head. “No. I’m messing around. She’s leaving in a few days. It’s not like anything will ever happen.” Sadness hollows his eyes. It’s like a bullet to the chest and hurts like a mother.

“Do you want it to happen?” I ask quietly, indicating the drawings.

Color flares in Lachlan’s cheeks and he glares at me. “Of course I want it to happen, but wanting something and having something are two different things.”

Shit, he’s in deeper than I thought.

“She’s amazing.” I prod. “I mean, who wouldn’t want her?”

Another harsh glare is directed at me followed by a long sigh. “I’ve never felt this way about a woman before. Ever.” Lachlan picks up a pencil and adds a line to the drawings. “She’s my castle in the sky, and it’s fucking killing me.”

Fuck.

I can see Lachlan heading into a funk. When he’s buried in the fog, it’s hard to get to him. He literally shuts down. The same thing he did when our parents abandoned him, which ebbs and flows over the years.

Time to pull him out.

“I’ve never seen you like this around a woman. Jesus man, you were dancing.” I shoulder-bump him. “It was the worst fucking thing I’ve ever seen. I was about to call the paramedics.”

He frowns at the paper.

I shake my head. “I don’t know how to tell you, brother, but I don’t think ‘Dancing with the Stars’ is in your future. Fuck, maybe a Zumba instructor or getting the church ladies to do the limbo?”

“Fuck off.” Lachlan shoots me a sideways smile. “I enjoy being around her. She talks to me. Listens. Most women don’t. Or I don’t get them. Shit, I don’t know, but Georgia’s different.”

I tug my hand through my hair. “Aye, she is.” I pause, weighing my words. “I know the reason you, me, and Knox have never been in a committed relationship is because of how our parents deserted us.” I press. “But you want a relationship.”

Call me Doctor Phil.

Pretty sure he’s retired.

Well, shit.

Lachlan stares at me, running his hand repeatedly through his hair. “I don’t know why I feel the way I do around Georgia, but I do. I’ve already committed to visiting her in the US. A woman I barely know.” He pauses. Frowns. “But I think I do know her, and she knows me. She calms me in a way I’ve never felt before.”

I had noticed that about Lachlan when he’s around my angel. The kinetic energy that has him continually jiggling or moving has stilled. He’s found peace with her he’s never had before.

She’s brought out the best in all of us.

“You were pretty quick to move her into your place before Knox and I could,” I point out. Something Lachlan hasn’t done before. Yeah, sporadic women have left in the morning with him giving them a quick kiss and calling them an Uber. But I’ve never seen my brother so animated. So into a woman.

“Knox and I have never seen you like this.” Something Knox and I talked about this morning, briefly, which is why I’m here.

Lachlan stares me down. “Yeah, well, I’ve never seen you like this around a woman.”

Yeah, well, there is that.

“Any of us, brother, any of us,” I reply, because it’s true.
