“She’s in the all the way in the back lot, inside the old wooden shed. I have to go,” I explain quickly. They call after me but I’m already on my bike peeling out of the gate.

Chapter Five

Delilah

One hour ago

“So where’d they head off to?” I asked Doll as I popped another cherry in my mouth, breaking it off the stem flicking it at her. Issac and Nathan took off to somewhere a while ago and I’m curious about where. Doll laughs and flicks a cherry stem back at me.

“So, I think that’s something he should tell you about,” she said, eating another cherry.

“Oh, come on. You always tell me that,” I say, flicking a cherry stem at her.

“I know, but it’s because I don’t really wanna be on my nephew’s shit list for telling you something he’s not ready for you to hear,” she explains.

“Ah, I gotcha,” I said, beginning to understand. “So what-“ I asked Doll something when we heard a phone ring. We both turn to look to see whose it belongs to.

“Hello?” Michael said, answering. He stood abruptly. “Where?” he asked gathering his cut slipping it on. “We’re on our way,” he says, hanging up the phone. “Wrap it up boys, we’re rolling out. “

“What’s going on?” Doll asked, standing, watching everyone getting up and heading to the garage.

“Gabe just called. Said he saw Mateo trailing Issac,” Michael answered.

“The Diablos? Where were they? I thought y’all we’re on good terms for now?” she asked.

“Doll, I’d love to sit and chitchat, but I gotta go,” he said, running over giving her a quick kiss on the cheek. “Don’t worry, it’s probably the prospect of being overly cautious. “

Doll nodded and sighed. “You boys be careful!” she yelled after them as they all shuffled out the door. I watch Doll as she nervously chews the side of her cheek and picks at her nails. “Wanna help me clean up?” she asked, turning towards me. I nod my head and stand up.

We quickly get to work to distract ourselves. We pick up the mess the boys left and washed some dishes. I stand at the bar wiping it down when the gate alarm dings.

“They must be back already,” Doll says, appearing from the kitchen, leaning her head into her office door to check the camera. Her body freezes and she goes pale.

“Doll?” I ask, trying to read her face.

“Get under the bar. Now,” she said, rushing over. Without asking questions, I immediately hit the floor and crawled under the bar and pushed myself in between the ice machine and glass shelf. Doll squats down in front of me.

“I need you to stay calm. Isaiah is about the burst through that door,” she says calmly. My heart races and I take a deep breath and nod. “Don’t come out until I tell you to,”

The alarm to the garage office goes off and she shoots up and stands at the bar and starts cleaning again. I hear her take a deep breath as the door to the bar area opens.

“Isaiah, long time no see,” she says. I hear not one, not two, but multiple footsteps approach.

“I’m not here to make small talk, Doll. You know this,” I hear Isaiah say. “I made sure everything was in place before I showed up, so please. Stop wasting my time and tell me where she is.”

“What do you mean, everything in place?” she asked. There was a long pause and she sighs. “Fucking prospects,”

“Where is she, Doll?” Isaiah asks with a stern tone.

“I don’t know. I’m not her fucking keeper,” Doll snapped back.

“Oh please, I know you and here are constantly up each other’s asses when she’s not up Issacs,”

“And your point?”

“Doll,”

“Isaiah,”
