“Absolutely babe. Whatever you want, I’ll make it happen,” I promise her. She finally smiles and nods. I grab her chin and pull her in for a quick kiss.

“I love you,” she whispers.

“I love you too,”

“Issac, it’s good to meet you. I’m Doctor Sarah Lee,” Delilah and I’s new therapist say as she walks into my office. I promised Delilah I’d see her first and see how it goes.

“Hi there,” I say grabbing her hand shaking it.

“Why don’t we have a seat” she says pointing towards my desk, claiming my office as her own while she’s here. I nod and sit behind my desk. She sits and begins pulling stuff out of her bag.

“I looked into your and Delilah’s hospital charts to prepare for this meeting. But why don’t you tell me why I’m here?” she says, crossing her legs.

I clear my throat and lean back in my chair. “Delilah’s been having nightmares and flashbacks. She barely sleeps or eats. I’ve tried to get her to talk to me, but she just shuts down,” I explain. Dr. Lee writes quickly in her notebook as I go on.

“Okay, when I see her, I’ll go over a few of these concerns with her. But what about you?” she says, looking into my eyes like she’s reading my soul.

“I-I’m fine,” I say accidentally stuttering. Fuck.

“Are you though?” she asks. “In the notes I read, you say you had to watch as your uncle and brother assaulted Delilah. You also mention how they made you bury her alive. You state you were also a victim of assault.

Fuck. I have no words.

“I can’t imagine living with those images in your head is easy Issac,”

I still can’t find words.

“You’ve pushed them to the back of your mind, haven’t you?” she asks.

“I-” I begin but stop. She notices me freeze up and nods because my body’s reaction answered her questions.

“Well, I’m not going to push you into talking to me, but I would like us to try, eventually. If that’s okay?” she says.

“I just want to get Delilah taken care of first, then I’ll think about what I need to do,” I say. Delilah is my priority right now, and she needs help.

“Okay,” she nods. “Let’s get started then, shall we? I’d like our first session to just be her and I. I hope that’s okay,” Dr. Lee says. I nod.

“Of course. I’ll go grab her,” I say as I stand up.

I make my way into the clubhouse and up to our room. I knock on the bedroom door, then slowly open it. Delilah is sitting on the bed, towel drying her now shoulder length hair.

“Hey” I say walking in, closing the door behind me. She turns towards me and gives me a little smile.

“Hi” she says as she stands and tosses the towel in the dirty clothes basket. I walk over to her and pulled her into a hug.

“The therapist is here. I talked to her for a little. She’s cool. I think you’ll like her,” I say, pulling away from the hug to look at her.

She smiles up at me and nods. “Okay”

“If you don’t like her, just let me know and we’ll figure it out.”

She smiles at me again. “Sounds good,” and with that she walks out towards my office. I follow behind, but stay in the clubhouse. I watch her walk through the door and sigh. I hope this helps her. She’s lost too much weight and her spitfire self is slowly dimming.

I’m suddenly smacked in the back of the head by something. I turned to look and see a piece of crumbled up newspaper on the floor. Then I laid eyes on the thrower. Doll grins at me.

“She agreed to see her?” she asks while leaning against the bar. I nod and walk over to a bar stool and sit.
