“I get it. You’re protecting her,” she says.

The door to her room cracks open.

“She’s asking for you,” a nurse says to me. Without hesitation, I go to walk in, but Iris stops me.

“Issac, you should talk to her about possibly seeing a therapist,” she murmurs, so only I can hear her.

“I don’t want to push her into doing something she doesn’t want right now, Iris. We should give her time,”

Iris nods. “I know. Go see your girl,” she says with a worried smile. I lean forward and give her a quick forehead kiss. Then I open the door and go see my girl.

Chapter Nineteen

Delilah

Issac comes in with the biggest smile I’ve ever seen on him. Doctors are still surrounding me, taking my vitals and all that jazz. They’ve been asking me questions, but I could only get a few words out. My throat is sore, and my voice is barely there because of my feeding tube and breathing tube they had hooked up.

“Everything’s good?” Issac asks the doctor that adjusting my IV.

“Yes, perfect actually. Quite amazing given the circumstances,” she says with a smile. Issac’s face lights up even more.

“She just needs a good bath, and a change of bedding and a clean robe and then she’ll be even better,”

“C-can” I try to speak. Everyone freezes and looks at me. I swallow and look at Issac and point. The doctor looks between us and then I think she understands.

“You want him to help you with us?” she asks. I nod my head and smile.

“You got it,” she smiles.

After Issac and a nurse bath me and help me get dressed in a fresh robe, they lay me back down on my fresh bed linen. Although there was little talk between us, Issac and I exchanged smiles after he and the nurse bathed me and assisted me in putting on a fresh robe.

Him being the first person I saw when I woke up, changed everything. I thought I’d never see him again. I thought he either died or given up on me and fell into his brother’s trap.

The nurse leaves, and now it’s just us. Issac pulls a chair up next to the bed and sits. He grabs it and gives it a quick kiss.

“I” I try to get words out.

“Don’t push yourself, babe. Give it time,” he says, rubbing circles on the top of my hand.

“I love you too,” I choke out.

Issac hand stops. He looks up at me, his teary eyes search mine.

“I’m so fucking sorry,” he says. Tears begin falling down his cheeks. I bring my free hand up and wipe them away. I shake my head, trying to let him know he shouldn’t be sorry. I scoot over in the bed as much as I can and pat it, asking him to sit next to me.

He rises from the chair and gently sits on the bed. He acts like he’s gonna break me. I sigh and roll my eyes. I grab his shoulder and try to yank him back to me, but I still don’t have my strength back yet. He got the hint and lied down next to me. He still has tears running down his face. I cup his cheek and lean in, giving him a quick kiss. Then I close my eyes and rest my head against his chest, listening to his heartbeat that I’d thought I’d never hear again.

Sometime later, I hear a knock on my door, then it opens. Two men in suits come in and stand at the end of my bed.

Issac sits up and stretches, then realizes we’re not alone. He shoots up from the bed and stands in front of the men.

“What do you want?” Issac asks.

“Issac chill. Jesus,” I hear Iris say as she walks in. “They’re here to ask questions about what happened. I told you this.”

Issac groans. “Fuck”

“We need you to step out while we speak to her sir,” one of the men says. Issac glares at him and goes to say something.
