“Good, that’s what matters most. I would recommend using a vibrator with him, or yourself, before foreplay. You need to make sure you’re really relaxed. Have him take it slow, let him focus on you.”

A shiver went down to my core. Nervous anticipation.

Merrick appeared to pick me up from my appointment. My doctor was still standing in the lobby, talking with the nurse when he arrived. He wore a classy, blue suit and his aviators. The sight made my core clench and the doctor’s jaw fall slack.

I crossed the room and he bent, kissing my temple.

“How was it?”

“Good, she’s putting me on the pill.”

It was late so he took me out for dinner. We had sashimi in a private room at one of Merrick’s favorite restaurants. Then we went home and parted awkwardly in the hallway.

I asked to sleep in his bed a few days later.

He refused.

“If you sleep in my bed, Clara, I’ll fuck you,” he said hoarsely. “And I swore I’d take care of you. Accidentally getting you pregnant doesn’t factor into that.”

I knew he was right, but I was dying to be near him. Just to feel his heat and fill my senses with his dark, oak scent.

It tortured us both to be so close, but still so far.

So close I could almost taste him.

I had to endure seeing Osian at a dinner for one of his father’s business deals. He was as brash and arrogant as ever. His hand lingered on me all through dinner. Fingers closed on my thigh like he owned me. Like he’d already pierced me.

Eyes possessive.

After the meal was over, he asked Merrick to speak alone. They went into the hallway while I waited by the door. I could just make out the rise and fall of their voices. Too low to really hear.

They were discussing me.

Of course they were.

I trusted Merrick, I had no other choice. But I wished I could be part of the conversation.

After several minutes, Merrick strode down the hall. The look in his eyes caught me off guard.

Hard. Dark. Possessive.

My core clenched, a little thrill of fear going down my spine. He put his hand on my lower back and ushered me out the front door and into the Audi.

I curled up in the seat, arms folded in my lap.

His hand flexed on the steering wheel.

“Did you kiss him?” he asked.

I glanced over, noticing the hard line of his jaw. Was he angry with me? I hadn’t done anything wrong by kissing Osian.

“Yes,” I said carefully.

“Did you like it?”

“It was…alright.”

“What else?”
