“Oh my God,” she breathed, clenching around me.

“Fuck, I know,” I said, kissing her forehead.

We didn’t speak, we didn’t have to. The warm afternoon sunlight spilled in through the window as I rocked inside her, keeping us both on the edge for a long time.

My knuckles split and blood stained the white pillowcase behind her head. But it didn’t matter because it didn’t matter what had happened yesterday or the day before, or what was in store tomorrow. All that mattered was the woman beneath me, the woman who had accepted me completely.

Without reservation.

I plied her clit until she came and my orgasm followed soon after. Then we lay in a haze, murmuring the sweetest things into the space between the sheets where only we could hear them.

Euphoria. Perfection.

All those words were too weak to describe this feeling.

This was the beginning of the rest of my life.

I rolled onto her and we made love again, this time quickly and breathlessly. When we were done, we lay together and I slid my hand down between her thighs and touched her clit.

“Do you want me to have you pierced here, cariad?”

“Yes, please,” she said without hesitation. “When we get back.”

I shook my head. “Let’s wait.”

She frowned as I rose. “Why?”

“Because you have to abstain for a bit after being pierced,” I said. “And I don’t want to abstain, I want to fuck my fiancée as often as possible for the next month or so. After that, we can get it done.”

It was getting late and the outside world faded away with the sunset. We had dinner and went out on the back patio. She was beautiful in the hot tub, her soft curves glittering with water and her diamonds gleaming on her naked body.

I got on my knees and made her count orgasms until her knees gave out.

CHAPTER FIFTY-ONE

CLARA

When I woke the next morning, he was gone. I pulled on his shirt and padded downstairs to find him in the kitchen with a cup of coffee before him. He didn’t have his laptop, he was just staring into space. His phone sat a foot away, facedown.

“Hey,” I said softly.

He started, blinking.

“Good morning,” he said, his voice hoarse.

Feeling okay?” I said, leaning over the counter to kiss him.

His kiss was all wrong. A bit rushed and his energy was strange. Almost agitated. My stomach dropped.

“Yeah,” he said, rising to pour me some coffee. “But I think we should talk about the future. Now. I want to get some things out of the way.”

My heart sank as I sat down. My fingers were cold, tangled in my lap.

“What happened?” I whispered.

“Nothing,” he said, handing me a mug. “But if we’re getting married, I have to be completely truthful with you and, up until now, I didn’t have permission.”

“You’re scaring me,” I whispered.
