It would be the most beautiful thing Raven has ever seen if she didn’t feel the tremendous heartbreak causing it. The hurt is all consuming. It has a companion though. There’s something fearsome there, but that’s not it. Something stronger is bubbling up inside Callie and staining the oceans of blue aura with a brilliant red, blending with it until her whole being is glowing in misty whisps of purple. This truly is the most beautiful thing Raven has ever seen.

Without even realizing it, Raven is traveling to this beacon of color. She is certain this must be what it feels like to be a moth drawn to the warmth of a glowing light. Raven wants to touch it, touch Callie, and let her soft light fill her soul. As she gets almost close enough to run her fingers through it, Callie looks up from the floor and locks eyes with Raven. Raven is in awe as the glowing light around Callie takes on a pinkish hue swirling in amongst the purple.

She restrains herself from touching the girl before her, but cannot control her words, “Your colors are beautiful.” What? Why would she say that? Raven feels like an idiot.

Callie’s cheeks, though, flush red, and the pink tendrils intensify, but so does the purple. “Thank you,” she says, a little breathlessly. The purple now darkens intensely as she asks, “Can we talk about your friend, Emily?”

Still mesmerized, Raven nods her head yes.

Callie quickly looks around to see who may be witness to their interaction before grabbing Raven’s wrist and yanking her into an empty classroom. Never letting go of her, Callie leans in close to Raven, “She’s in serious danger and I think you may already know why.”

Raven snaps out of her trance now. She does know, “It’s him.”

Callie nods, “He hurt me before, but I had resources and I got away. I don’t know if Emily knows how. I’m going to do what I can today to put some things in motion to help her, but could you help too?”

Raven will always help someone in need, but now she is certain she would go even further than that if Callie asked her to, “Yes, of course. Anything. What can I do?”

“I’m not entirely sure yet,” Callie says with a soft laugh, “My plans are still evolving. I think just be available. Do you know anywhere safe Emily could stay if she needs to?”

“Absolutely. She can stay with Willow and me. She’s always welcome. No questions. Her parents won’t care at all.”

Callie smiles, “That’s so perfect I could kiss you!”

It’s Raven’s turn to blush now.

Callie grabs a pen from her pocket and opens Raven’s hand in hers. Jotting down her cell phone number, Callie tells her, “Call me when you can and I’ll save your number so I can get a hold of you if I need to.”

Done writing now, Callie’s fingers linger on Raven’s. The girls share a lingering look and savor the skin contact. Then, just like that, Callie disappears out the door and leaves Raven reeling.

Still though, even in the haze, she is certain she has deciphered the great red cloud creating the beautifully rich violet shade around Callie. Without a doubt, it is hope.

Willow is well aware that her sister has unbelievable gifts. Willow also knows she cannot match what Raven can do. Willow is studious and incredibly knowledgeable about their craft, but Raven is naturally gifted in ways Willow has never seen. However, Willow has a growing ability of her own and it is sending her serious vibes about Raven. For someone not at all interested in the craft, they might call it a gut feeling. Willow knows it has deeper roots than that. It is intuition. A third eye. It is new and still developing, but it is definitely growing into something more powerful.

For example, she can tell that her sister is nearby right now and it feels pretty likely she is behind the same door that Callie Meadows just scurried out of with bright red cheeks. Now, low and behold, out comes Raven looking just as flushed. Willow smiles knowing she was right about more than just her sister’s location. She just wishes now that Raven felt sure enough of their sisterhood to share how she is feeling.

As her mind runs over these thoughts, Raven zeros in on her among the masses of teenagers like a tactile missile. Somehow, Raven’s own gift just knows where her sister is.

“We need to talk,” Raven says, grabbing her sister’s arm. Willow begins to question if this might be the moment Raven is ready to open up but has her thoughts interrupted by Raven’s exacerbated sigh, “And stop trying to figure me out. It’s so freaking loud.”

Willow rolls her eyes, “I just want you to know that it’s totally okay to-”

“Oh, I know what you want,” Raven interjects, “but you’re going to have to be patient. Let me get there on my own first.”

Willow knows Raven is right. This is not her choice.

“Callie thinks Emily is in danger,” Raven reports.

Willow didn’t really need to hear this. She had already been thinking it for weeks, “I think so too. What do we do?”

“Well, Callie says she’s working on a plan and wants us to just be available. Maybe let Em stay with us if she needs to. I think we also need to talk to Em.” Raven lets this sit with Willow for a moment.

She nods in agreement, “Yes. Yes, we do.” Scanning the busy hallway, Willow spots their friend. Her eyes narrow when she sees the dark circles and furrowed worry lines on her pale face.

“Whoa. She’s completely wrapped in a cloud of black,” Raven says, incredulous.

Willow stares down at her sister, “Whoa is right. You can see it now?”

Raven shrugs, “Apparently, but I think only when the feeling is super strong. I saw it on Callie today too.”
