“Looks like you’ve proven yourself.”

“What do you mean?” I bit out.

“You’re going up. Serpents want you for tomorrow’s game.”

“What?” I sat up quickly and drew Jessa against my chest. “Are you serious?”

“Yep. Congrats. You’ve earned it. Game is at seven. Be up for afternoon practice to meet with the team and the coach. Hope I don’t see you again, and I mean that in the best way possible.”

Without another word, Coach hung up, and I dropped my phone to the bed.

Jessa rolled her hips against me and turned her head to the side. “What did he want?”

I didn’t answer. I gripped her hips and worked her over me hard and fast until we both came. Then I kissed her. I devoured her mouth with mine, pulled out and got rid of the condom, and turned her toward me.

Jessa moaned against my lips and rubbed those perfect tits on my chest. She didn’t press me to tell her anything. She just pressed herself down onto me when I was hard again and let me hold her.

I moved her slowly, needing to savor the feeling of her, the way she smelled, the way she moaned in my ear and clawed up my back.

I might not return. I hoped I didn’t return.

But I wanted to come back because of her.

“I got called up,” I admitted as we both came.

Jessa’s lips parted, and those green eyes searched mine. “What?”

I nodded. “I got called up, baby.”

“For when?” She tried to pull herself away from me, but I held her tightly, desperate to keep her close.

“Tomorrow.”

“That’s great,” Jessa said, but the sadness in her words betrayed her. “I’m so happy for you.”

“You’re not.”

“No, I am,” she wiped at the tear that slid down her cheek. “I’m happy for you, Zachy. Sad for me, but I’m so,sohappy for you.”

Jessa wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed me slowly. She sucked in a sob, and our kiss became wet with tears.

“Baby…”

“Don’t,” she began as I wiped her tear-soaked cheeks. “Don’t stay because of me. Please. I want you to do this. You’re going to be great, and they’re going to keep you.” She paused and took a shaky breath. “I’d want to keep you too. But you stole all my luck.”

“Come with me,” I offered. “We’ll stay at my house, you can come to the game, and then we’ll come home. Together.”

She shook her head. “This isn’t your home.”

“It’s not,” I agreed, and she frowned. “But you are.”

“Zach…” she began, but I wasn’t finished.

“I love you, Jessa.”

“Oh, my God,” she sobbed, and it wasn’t quite the reaction I had expected. “You have the worst timing.” She breathed a sad laugh.

“I know,” I chuckled. “But I need you to know.”
