I helped Jessa stand and led her to the bathroom, turning on the shower while she peed. Something so simple, yet the fact that she was comfortable doing it in front of me felt like we’d turned a corner in our relationship.

We had turneda lotof corners, especially after last night.

We got in the shower, and I stayed out of the stream, keeping Jessa warm. I tenderly lathered soap around her most sensitive parts, washing away any lingering remnants of last night and this morning.

I kissed her as she rinsed, massaged her scalp with shampoo and conditioner that smelled like coconuts, and she drew me forward into the warm water. Jessa did the same for me, cleaning my cock so thoroughly, I got hard.

As much as I wanted to press her face to the shower wall and fuck her again, I managed to find some restraint. We got out of the shower, dried off slowly, and dressed.

I made her breakfast while she watched with a shy grin. We ate scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, and toast curled together on Jessa’s couch.

There was nowhere else I wanted to be. But as the day continued, our exploring of each other’s bodies continued, and as Ali came home when the sun had set, I had to leave.

I wanted to invite her to stay with me, remind her that my apartment was much closer to the office than hers, but I knew Rook would get weird about it. He had gone down my throat after she left the first time she was over, and I didn’t want to uncover the reason why.

CHAPTER23

JESSA

Andrew calledme around eight on Sunday night. I stared at my phone, confused, and slowly picked up.

“Hello?”

“Kiddo, do you have cable?”

“I—what? Why?”

“There’s a recap of last night’s game on. Put it on.”

I grabbed the remote from the coffee table with a sigh. “What channel?”

“Fifteen.”

Navigating to the channel, I was greeted by my own face. God, I didn’t realize howshinymy forehead looked. I was blabbering on about Power Play.

“Dad…” I sighed. “I don’t want to watch my dumb speech. I look ridiculous.”

“I’m recording it.”

“Great,” I grumbled and sat back on the couch. “You should’ve been the one they interviewed. They would have loved chatting with you instead of me.”

“You did an amazing job, kiddo.”

The interviewer brought up Power Play’s website, how fans could help out, and then she was interviewing someone else. My screen was filled with… Zach’s face. Zach’s gorgeous, sweaty face.

“I’ll be damned,” Andrew muttered with a laugh. “Zach is going to tell them he was in Power Play as a kid.”

“Shh,” I hissed.

“…Power Play gave me the chance to play hockey. Without a program like that, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

I caught the tail end of his sentence and stared at the TV, utterly dumbfounded. When had he done this?

“And there you have it: this game’s First Star player, and Power Play graduate, Zachary Renshaw. Zach. What do you plan to do to help Power Play?” The interviewer tilted her microphone to Zach, and his face turned up into a shining grin.

“I plan to do everything I can for the program that’s close to my heart.”

“Kiddo…this is fantastic. Did you know he did this?” Andrew asked.
