I end the call and head to the bathroom. The tone of her voice makes her sound like a wounded animal, and something tugs at me from inside. I make my way to the bathroom but stand far enough away that I do not look like I am lurking.

"What the fuck do you want?" she asks when she exits.

Her eyes are bloodshot, and her hands trembling.

"You are stuck here too?"

"Fucking snow and fucking Good Relations."

"What?" I ask.

She glares at me, but something makes her answer. "They won't pay for an extra night! Not only am I stuck here, but I can't afford a hotel room either, so I'm going to go sleep at the airport and hope some perv doesn't try anything in the middle of the night."

"I have the penthouse suite at the Luthor Grand," I blurt out.

"Well, whoop-de-fucking-do! You win again!"

"I was going to offer to put you up for the night."

She looks at me, blinking the tears from her eyes. "I'm not—"

"I know, and I am not suggesting that. There are three rooms, no four. Take your pick, and you will not know I am there. You might think I am an asshole, but I will not leave a lady in distress."

"I… thank you."

SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY

"Lucy, I don't need a place to stay, all right? I have already found somewhere, but I'm just asking if I can get some food on the way to the hotel and charge it to the company."

"Mr. Hodgkins is not in the office right now, but we're not supposed to charge any extras to the company."

I take the phone from my ear to silently mouth some curse words as I try to keep my cool. "I understand that, but I'm stuck here another night and was already told I couldn't charge a hotel room. Can't you call Mr. Hodgkins and explain the situation to him?"

"He really doesn't like to be bothered once he is out of the office," Lucy answers.

I take the phone from my ear again and silently scream at it before bringing it back. "Lucy, help me out here. We need to stick together, right?"

"The best thing I can suggest is to get some food and keep the receipt."

Yeah, and then not be reimbursed because it wasn't authorized before I bought it.

"All right, Lucy. Thank you for yourhelp."

I hang up before she can add a saccharine goodbye.

"Fuck!" I scream at the phone.

I slam it down on the leather seat beside me, hitting it a good dozen times more, but to no avail. The phone doesn't break, and my frustration doesn't subside.

"I will get you some food," says the billionaire from the other side of the luxury car.

I want to refuse, just on principle, but that would be petty. Plus, he is worth a billion dollars (maybe more), so why not? I hold his gaze and try to think of something witty to say.

"I'm sorry you had to see that," is all I can manage. "I'm not usually like this, but with the client, the storm, and my company wanting to starve me like I'm a model about to go on the runway, I am feeling a little annoyed. I'm usually a ray of sunshine."

"Oh, I believe it," he replies.

I hold his gaze again and can't decide if he is smug or stoic. I decide to order the most expensive thing on the menu just because I can.
