“I’m really glad that the day went well for the two of you,” I began, relaxing my shoulders. “Are the two of you getting along okay? I know Olivia doesn’t have many connections in the city, and since she’ll be here a while, I think it’s important that we do all we can to help her settle in.”

Zena’s smile returned, her whole demeanor brightening. “Yeah, I think she’s doing really well. We actually went out for drinks this weekend.”

Oh...

“That’s great. Keep up the good work.”

OLIVIA

“Just like that!” Mason, one of the directors, called out as Harlee lip-synced to her new song. The entire street was shut down, and the evening sun was casting the perfect glow from behind the cameramen. I watched, a smile on my face.

This is perfect.

“I don’t like this setup,” Eli muttered from behind me.

Of course you don’t.

I shook my head at his reaction. Literally every single shot that I had helped design, he grumbled about. Things between us were worse than ever—and I wasn’t sure if it was the fact that we had hooked up three weeks ago and barely spoken since...

Or if he really just didn’t like me.

But I was getting really tired of it.

In fact, I was so sick of his attitude toward me that I had stopped hanging out with Owen and Eli at all. I never went to brunch, and I never accepted an invitation to go out with them. I stuck to Zena, who was literally my only friend. However, she was proving to be a great ally and support for dealing with Eli.

“Just ignore him,” she said in a low voice, rolling her eyes. “I still swear he’s just hating on you because he wants dat ass.”

I giggled, shaking my head. “He does stare at it a lot.” I glanced back to Eli who, just like always, was staring at me. He loved to hate, but he also loved to look—and as much as I hated the way things were going, it left me wondering what he was thinking...

And if he was still hung up on the hot sex we’d had.

Of course, then again, he hadn’t said anything more about it.

Ugh. Men, I swear. They’re only good for loving and leaving.

My heart squeezed at the thought, my past filling my head. I always fell for the kind of guys who never hung around, and I thought I had gotten better about choosing, but apparently...

I was dead wrong.

“How was that?” Harlee called out, breathless from her street dancing. Her cheeks were a rosy shade of red and the smile on her face was infectious. I was really starting to like Harlee, and I understood why she had gone so far so fast.

“I loved it,” I said to her, leaving Zena’s side and ignoring the scoff that left Eli’s mouth. “How do you feel about it?”

“I think it went really great—I mean, I haven’t seen the footage, but I have a good feeling that it’s exactly what I want it to be.”

“And that’s the most important aspect of the video.” I was confident that it was going to be a great music video, and the movie-like elements gave it a sweet Taylor Swift vibe that I adored.

“I don’t know that I agree.” Eli stepped forward, his voice causing my heart to sink. “I think it’s just as vital that we know what your audience and fans are expecting. We want them to feel fulfilled.”

“So do you not think that’s going to happen with this music video?” Harlee raised a dark eyebrow, folding her arms across her chest. “You’re concerning me. Maybe I should consult some of my team as to what they think.”

“Of course,” I said quickly. “You should consult whoever you need—”

“I’ll set up a meeting with your team,” Eli cut me off, burning me.

Disrespectful asshole.
