One more taste, one more touch.
What is it about this woman?
She should be untouchable, and yet all I want to do is touch.
Last night I was negligent. I put my own wants and needs over the needs of countless innocents. Never in my entire career have I been so careless.
But, I knew that this would happen coming into this didn’t I? And yet, I made the decision to come anyway. It’s like my decisions are being driven by some force that’s outside of my control, but I can’t stop.
Fact – Holly Adkins is the daughter of a known mafia boss. A man so evil, so sickening, that his spot in hell has been reserved for eternity. His blood pumps through her veins, irregardless of whether or not she’s directly involved with this case.
I cut my eyes back over to the blonde seductress that lay next to me drooling on the pillow she’s hugging like a damn teddy bear and tried to reconcile this woman with the woman that she is on paper, and it does nothing but continue to frustrate me.
For the first time in my life, I feel like I’m compromised; I’m straddling the line, and it’s preparing to snap beneath me, but we’re too far in. There’s no turning back now.
I’ve been under too long, and if I step down, they’ll put Bennett on the case. I don’t trust Bennett as far as I can throw him. I sure as hell don’t trust him anywhere near Holly, especially after that stunt he tried to pull the other night.
I’ve got to figure out a way to take down Wilks and Adkins and maintain my cover with Holly. I can’t leave her here, not after last night. If she’s not involved with the case, she needs protection just as much as every other innocent we protect in this line of duty does, if not more so. Why would Adkins allow his own daughter to be led into the lion’s den?
Whether or not she thinks she needs me, I’m here for the duration.
The question is…will she be my downfall or my redemption?
