That was when Aliyah started laughing into my neck.

And that laughter got even louder and louder.

Everyone was looking at her with concern.

That was until she pulled her face from my neck, then got out of my lap and looked at the people that were standing at our backs.

“Wow, I’ve always wondered where I came from. Now, thanks to your attitude and the entitlement you obviously think you have, I’m glad I never sought either of you out,” Aliyah said.

The man sounded confused, “Umm, I’m not sure what you mean.”

I looked over my shoulder at them to see the man looking at the older woman.

Then to the older woman, I said, “All you have to do is get a picture of you when you were twenty-one, and that tells you all you need to fucking know.”

They were all silent then when one of the boys looked from Aliyah to the woman, “Holy cow. He’s right. She’s the spitting image of you.”

That was when the man said, “Wait? My daughter is dating the MVP. Man, this is golden.”

That was when my dad stood up, along with Marcus, and Van, and their dad, and each of them crossed their arms, but it was my dad who said, “No. My daughter is engaged to Daemon.”

“My little sister isn’t your family,” Marcus snapped.

“Same,” Van snapped.

Rashad glared at the man and snapped, “My daughter has a heart of gold. Thank god she inherited from my side of the family. She inherited that Mom glare of hers from my wife.”

That was when the woman finally spoke, and she whispered, “You’re beautiful.”

Crew snapped then, “No. My mom is gorgeous.”

The woman actually looked ashamed then, and then she lowered her voice and said softly, “Perhaps it would be best if the two of us went somewhere to talk.”

Aliyah simply shook her head, “No. Because judging by the ages of the two boys, I’m thinking I was just given up because your husband only wanted sons.”

I saw the look and knew that Aliyah was spot on, just like she always was.

The way she could read people was uncanny as fuck.

“We have nothing to talk about. I’ve got my family, and you have yours. Now. I believe my brother has already told you no. And my son has already told you no. And both of my dads have told you no. Now before I unleash my man on you and my other brother, I suggest you leave. Now.”

“Was she talking about me?” I heard Van ask.

Marcus deadpanned, “What do you think? Besides me, you’re the only other person she would ever call her brother.”

Van said deep and low, the threat clear in his voice, “Get the fuck out.”

“Now, you lis…” the older man started.

But the manager walked over then, “My apologies for not getting here sooner. This family has asked you to leave. It would be wise to do so.”

And then as they were leaving, I heard one of the boys ask them, “Wait, was she right? Our little sister was given away because she was born a girl. But… that doesn’t make any sense, you love your granddaughters.”

None of us really cared to hear their answer.

I pressed a kiss on Aliyah’s head and asked, “You okay?”

She looked up at me, looked at our family, and simply nodded, “Never better.”
