Then I moved to a box and then smiled, then I looked at Crew, then at Keeley. “You want to see something weird but cool?”

She nodded.

Crew looked at the box, and narrowed his eyes, but the moment I had the lid off and he saw what was on top, he smiled, “I love the stuff in this box.”

The kids sat down on the bed beside me, and then we pulled the items out one by one, and the first thing was THE jersey, “This was the jersey that had Crew falling in love with y’all’s dad. I took him to his first football game when he was four. At halftime, some of the players came to the side we were on and signed stuff. Crew wanted to meet the man I had told him about, so we went down there, and they met. Then twenty minutes later, he had someone deliver the smallest jersey he could find to Crew.”

Keeley smiled and said, “Aww, I bet that was cute.”

Crew nodded, “Yeah, Dad has the video, somehow they captured it and made a montage of it.”

Then I pulled out the coffee cup I had in a sealed bag, “This is the coffee cup that started it all. He brought me this the first time he sat down beside me in class. Then he proceeded for the rest of the week to bring me a hot cocoa after morning practice.”

Then Crew explained a few other things. Like the ball cap that had been worn so much that it was ripped to hell in a handbasket, but I put it in here to keep the rest of it safe. The amusement park ticket.

And when I looked up, it was to see my man with that soft smile on his face that had me wanting to jump his bones, “Hey, honey.”

“Hey, baby.” Then he walked over to us, and when he got close to me, he pressed a soft kiss on my lips.

“Guys, do me a favor, take this stuff, and then carefully put it all back away.”

Crew snickered, and then did as Daemon asked him to do.

Keeley snickered and followed suit.

As they were walking to the door, before Crew had it closed, I heard Keely say, “Hope I find someone that looks at me the way Dad looks at Mom.”

“Hope I find a woman like Mom, and I hope that I’m able to be at least half the man Dad is.” And with that, Crew closed the door.

Daemon whispered against my lips, “I love you, Aliyah Turner Campbell.”

“I love you too, Daemon Lucas Campbell.”

An hour later as we were getting dressed, we heard, “Hey Uncle Marcus.”

“Hey munchkin, where’s your parents?”

They both snickered, “Dad wanted alone time with Mom.”

“Gotcha.”

We were already at the end of the steps when I saw Marcus and said, “Hey you.”

I walked into his open arms and hugged him. He pressed a kiss atop my hair and then let me go, “Hey, Lil Mama.”

The next day, I couldn’t have prepared my heart for the phone call we got.

We were all in the waiting room. Waiting.

And when a doctor said, “Family for Marcus DuPointe?”

We all stood up and then walked over to him. He looked at the five of us and then at Van and said, “Umm?”

I grinned, “My name is Aliyah, he’s my twin, this is his brother, his other brother, and this is his nephew and his niece.”

Van nodded, “What she said is correct, this is his family. I can call our mother if you need to talk to her, but she will bless you out if you don’t give her daughter the news.”
