“And why not?” He asked with a slur in his tone.

“Because you are married,” I emphasized on the married bit. But as always, it wouldn’t do any good.

Shaking his head, he said, “I’m not married.”

It took everything in me to not laugh in his face. “You have an ole’ lady. Same freaking thing.”

And that was the God’s honest truth. If you had an ole’ lady in the eyes of the club, she was your wife.

However, if you just had a wife and didn’t make her your ole’ lady, that was different.

Means you didn’t offer her the protection of the club.

Sure, the brothers would help you out when you asked.

Yes, they wouldn’t let you be harmed.

But they wouldn’t throw themselves in front of a bullet for you.

They wouldn’t give up their seat at the table for you either.

“Man, can you show me that new bike you got?” Pipe asked with a take-no-nonsense tone. I knew he was trying to get Buster away from me.

Just then Buster looked at him and then at me, sneered and swaggered over to Asher, raising his voice so everyone could hear what was going on.

Asher took him by the arm and led him inside the clubhouse.

Thank God.

“Now I see what you mean,” Valerie said, as she scowled at Buster’s back.

“It's getting on my nerves,” I told them as I took a pull from my beer.

That was when Pipe asked, “Is it true?”

Raising an eyebrow at him, I asked, “Is what true?”

“You don’t sleep with men who are taken?”

“Yes, it’s true. If I know they have an ole’ lady or wife, they don’t get in my panties.” I told him honestly.

What I didn’t know was that with that one statement, a series of events would unfold.

And I wasn’t given a choice in the matter.

Just then Asher stepped out of the clubhouse and called out, “Gabby?”

I looked up at him and gave him my full attention. “Yes?”

“My office.” He said as he turned around and walked back into the clubhouse.

Looking around, my eyes landed on Chloe, who wore her little heart on her sleeve.

She was so in love with that man it wasn’t even funny.

Nodding, I stood up and waved at the ladies and walked around Pipe, not knowing he had followed me seconds later.

Following Asher into the clubhouse, down the hallway, and to his office, I asked, “Is this a closed-door meeting?”
