His words struck a chord within me, a stark reminder of the magnitude of my actions and the consequences they held. I met Steve's gaze, my eyes steady on his.

"Steve, I promise you that I've come to realize the depth of my love for Becca," I assured him. "I understand the pain I've caused her, and I'm committed to making amends. I won't let her down again."

Natalie's eyes bore into mine, her concern mixed with a fierce protectiveness. "Hunter, we've seen Becca go through so much. If you hurt her again, I won't hesitate to step in. I won't let her suffer because of your indecision or lack of commitment."

I nodded, the weight of their words settling on my shoulders. Their unwavering loyalty to Becca and their willingness to stand up for her reminded me of the stakes at hand.

"I understand, Natalie," I said, my voice resolute. "I don't want to hurt her. I want to show her the love she deserves and prove that I've changed. Please trust me."

Natalie's expression softened. "Hunter, we want nothing more than to see you both happy. We're here to support you, but it's up to you to follow through with your words."

A wave of gratitude washed over me, grateful for the love and support they were offering. I knew their intentions were rooted in genuine care for Becca, and I was determined to prove myself worthy of their trust.

"I won't let you down," I vowed, my voice steady. "Becca means everything to me, and I'll do whatever it takes to make things right."

At that moment, I realized that not only was I fighting for Becca's love, but I was also fighting for my own growth and redemption. This was another chance to change my life. The sunset on that eventful evening, and I couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope reigniting within me. Love was a powerful force, capable of healing even the deepest of wounds.

The Apology

Becca's POV

Sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a gentle glow across the room as I stood before my mirror, a myriad of emotions swirling within me. Today was a day I had been looking forward to—a spa day with my mother. It was meant to be a day of relaxation and rejuvenation, a respite from the turmoil that had consumed my heart.

Mom had offered the spa day when she noticed how desolate I had gotten staying home all day. After the first few days of exploring the town, there really was nothing to do here with no friends and no urge to step out of the house so, I decided to take the spa day.

I carefully picked an attire, opting for a comfortable yet stylish ensemble that exuded a hint of confidence. As I slipped into the loose sundress, I couldn't help noticing the reflection of a woman who had weathered storms and I couldn't help running my hands over the little bump which had started to develop.

Downstairs, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafted through the air, mingling with the sweet scent of lavender. Mother had prepared a light breakfast, hoping to coax into embracing the day ahead. She didn't need to; I was looking forward to a day away from the house. Time to converse and breathe air that hadn't been recycled twice through my room.

I descended the stairs, a mixture of anticipation and trepidation coursing through my veins. I found Mother sitting at the kitchen table, a warm smile gracing her lips.

"Good morning, sweetheart," mom greeted me. She'd made herself a plate of cereal and some cut fruit. "Are you ready for our spa day?"

My eyes flickered with uncertainty, a veil of sadness momentarily clouding my features. "I don't know, Mom. It's hard for me to focus on anything other than what's been going on, but I think today I might want to leave the house. It should be fun."

Mom's expression softened, her motherly instincts urging her to console her daughter. She gently took my hands in hers, her voice filled with empathy.

"I understand, my dear," Mom said, her voice laced with compassion. "But sometimes, taking a break and pampering ourselves can help clear our minds and find some solace. You deserve to take care of yourself, even in the midst of chaos."

I sighed, torn between the desire to indulge in self-care and the weight of my emotions. "I know, Mom, but it's difficult to set aside my thoughts and worries, especially when everything feels so uncertain."

Mom nodded; her gaze filled with understanding. "I can't promise that everything will be resolved overnight, Becca. But allowing yourself a moment of respite can give you the strength to face what lies ahead. And I'll be right there beside you, supporting you every step of the way."

My eyes welled up with tears, my heart aching with the love and support my mother offered. I knew mom was right—that I needed to take care of myself, even amidst the turmoil that consumed me. With a deep breath, I nodded, a glimmer of determination flickering in my eyes.

"You're right, Mom," I said, my voice filled with newfound resolve. "Let's go to the spa. Maybe it will help me find some peace amidst the chaos."

Mom beamed with pride; her love shown in her eyes. "That's my girl. Remember, Becca, no matter what happens, you are strong, resilient, and worthy of happiness."

I nodded and sat at the table while mom finished her breakfast, and we trouped out of the door. As we made our way out of the house, I couldn't help feeling a sense of gratitude for mom's unwavering support. I knew that this spa day was not just about physical relaxation; it was about reclaiming my sense of self, finding moments of tranquility amidst the chaos, and rediscovering my inner strength.

If only I could shut down my heart as easily as the brain. I knew what needed to be done, I just couldn't stand it, the thought of never seeing Hunter, it didn't feel good. It made me anxious, unsure and after everything he had done, it should've been easy to get over him. To shut down the part of my being that longed for a broken man, but I couldn't. I just couldn't. I would have to live my life knowing he had not chosen me or our child. And that hurt a lot.

The anticipation of a tranquil escape hung in the air as mom and I arrived at the luxurious spa. Nestled amidst a serene landscape, the building stood tall, adorned with floor-to-ceiling windows that allowed natural light to flood the interior.

The spa's architecture exuded an aura of serenity and sophistication, with its sleek lines and a harmonious blend of earthy tones. Lush greenery embraced the entrance, offering a glimpse of the oasis that awaited inside.
