I walked up the grand staircase to the second floor, where the bedrooms were located. The master suite was grand, with a king-sized bed and a balcony overlooking the ocean. The other rooms were just as luxurious, with comfortable beds and stunning views.

Finally, I made my way to the room that would be Mark’s. It was decorated with a nautical theme, with a boat-shaped bed and a painting of a lighthouse on the wall. Mark's toys were arranged around the room, and I couldn't help smiling at the thought of my son playing and laughing in this beautiful house.

I walked back downstairs to the living room and saw a large fireplace. I could picture myself sitting there on cold winter nights, with my son cuddled up next to me. I smiled at the thought of Mark's laughter filling the room, and I knew we’d make many happy memories in this house.

I stepped into the kitchen, finding it fully stocked with everything I’d need. I made a cup of coffee and sat down at the kitchen table, feeling content and at peace. It was time to heal.

As I sat there, I thought about all that I had been through in the past few years. Losing my wife had been devastating, but it had also taught me to appreciate life and the people I loved. I felt grateful for the new opportunities that had come my way, and I was determined to make the most of them.

I looked out the large windows and saw the ocean stretching out before me. The waves crashed against the shore, and I could hear seagulls in the distance. The view was breathtaking, and I felt a sense of peace wash over him. I knew then that I had made the right decision in coming back to Santa Monica.

My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Mark's voice.

"Daddy, can we go swimming?" Mark asked, tugging on my hand.

I smiled and ruffled Mark's hair. "Sure, buddy. Let's go change."

“While you two fishermen go frolic in the waves, I’m off to work, I’ll be back later with Becca,” Steve said.

“Becca Hamilton?” I asked.

“The very same, I’m surprised you still remember,” Steve said, his voice surprised.

“How could I forget?” I took Mark’s hand and made my way out of the room.

We spent the afternoon swimming in the ocean, playing in the sand, and picnicking on the beach.

I felt a sense of peace that I hadn't felt in a long time. It was good to be home, but home also meant Becca and she would be coming later.

As the sun set, I called to Mark, "It's time to return to the house, we have a lot of unpacking to do."

Mark grumbled, ''can we stay a little longer?"

"Come on, Mark, we need to get started on unpacking. It won't take us long if we work together," I said, looking at him with a smile.

"But, Dad, we've only been here for a little while. Can't we stay a little longer and explore?" Mark asked, pouting.

“I know it's tempting, but we have a lot to do, and we don't want to be up all night trying to finish," I replied, my tone gentle and understanding.

"I don't want to do all that boring stuff," Mark grumbled, kicking a pebble on the ground.

"I know it's not the most exciting thing, but it's important," I said, putting a hand on Mark's shoulder. "And once we're finished, we can relax and enjoy our new home without any worries."

Mark looked up at his father, considering his words. “But can we take a break and have some ice cream after we finish unpacking?"

“Absolutely," I replied, ruffling Mark's hair. "That sounds like a great idea. Now, let's get back to the house and get started. The sooner we finish, the sooner we can enjoy our new home together."

Mark nodded and followed me back to the house, then he slipped his hand into mine.

“This is going to be the best adventure ever," said Mark, looking up at me with a grin.

"I couldn't agree more," I replied, hugging him warmly. "I'm so glad we're here together."

The Visit

Hunter’s POV

Over the next few days, I settled into my new life. I explored the city with Mark and even made some new friends. But there was something missing. I missed Sarah terribly. She had been the fun-loving arm of our marriage. With her around, we’d have already had a housewarming party to introduce ourselves to the neighbors.
