He threw back his scotch and winced before replying.

“Well, there is that too. I can’t deny I’m glad I won’t have to deal with you two kids fighting.

But I’m always here to help my friends find love,” he joked.

Aiden chuckled, taking a sip of his drink.

“So, how did you two finally get together?” he asked, looking genuinely interested.

I leaned back on the barstool, a sense of contentment settling over me as I remembered the night Alex came to my house. She had looked so good, almost edible. And that kiss? I couldn’t wait to recreate it when I didn’t have to stop.

Snap out of it, I told myself. This was Alex we were talking about, and I was not about to let her wind me around her pretty little finger as easily as my brother had. No wonder he'd been so bad off after the breakup.

“It’s actually kind of a funny story,” I began. “Alex came over to talk wedding plans, and well things sort of went down from there,” I said winking at them.

Nathan raised an eyebrow, looking at me suspiciously.

"Wedding preparations?”

“You did make me your best man and are forcing me to work with her,” I replied, laughing at his expression.

Nathan leaned in, looking even more curious. "So, how did it happen? Did you finally confess your love for her?"

I shook my head, slightly amused by his question

“I’m not answering that,” I said, picking up my drink and taking a long swallow. A hot trail burned down my throat and on to my stomach.

"Well, at least it's all working out in your favor now," he said.

"Yeah, I guess it is. We settled our differences," I said, "and we realized that we have something special."

Nathan raised his eyebrows, looking intrigued. “Go on,” he said.

“I’m not one to kiss and tell guys,” I said leaning back with a nonchalant expression on my face.

Aiden looked at me mischievously. “Did you mean that literally?” he asked.

“Definitely man.”

Nathan leaned in, asking thoughtfully, “So, where do you see this going? Are you guys serious?”

I felt a surge of uncertainty at Nathan's question. Alex and I had only been "dating" for a few days, and I didn't want to rush anything. At the same time, I knew that I was starting to like her a little too much. And that wasn’t the plan. In fact, it was the very opposite of the plan.

“I don’t know, man,” I replied honestly. “We’re still figuring things out. But I really like her, and I can see this going somewhere.” I wasn't sure if that last part was honest or not.

Nathan nodded, looking satisfied with my answer, to my relief. I was over him giving me the third degree.

“Well, just remember what I said. I’ve got my eye on you two,” he teased.

I laughed, “Thanks, man. I appreciate it,” I said, my sarcasm heavy in the air.

We finished our drinks and said our goodbyes, and I wished that Alex would show up out of the blue at my house again tonight. It would be the perfect conclusion to a great day. I couldn’t help my hate for her, but I also couldn’t help thinking about her and craving her presence. It was that kiss. I’ve been too long without a woman in my life, I thought. After seeing what happened between Alex and Tristan, I held the women I met at arm's length, never letting things move beyond casual encounters. Maybe Nathan was right. Maybe it was time to let that go and live my life. But first, I had to finish what I started with Alex.

As I made my way out of the club and into the cool night air, I just couldn't help thinking about her. I knew I shouldn’t but at that moment I had about as much control over my brain as I had over Alex herself. I just couldn’t stop it from doing whatever it wanted.
