“I told you,” Razai whispered. “It’s Friday night.”

Now that made sense. Friday night meant parties and clubs and drunk university students doing stupid shit. “How did they get in?” I asked.

“Clave is a close family friend of Cole’s parents and took the guy on as an assistant. Not that he ever does much.” Razai was tall enough to see over one of the boxes if he stretched his neck.

And the web tangles even more.

Now it made sense that Clave was pissed after I scolded the asshole the other day. He was protecting his little protégé.

Stupid fucking archangels.

The girl turned her head away. “Are you sure this is okay? Clave will kill me if he finds us.”

“He won’t get us in trouble. Trust me.”

She gave him a flat stare. “Because you’re his golden boy. He doesn’t give a fuck about me.”

Cole caressed her cheek and promised, “But I give a fuck about you, and that means he won’t lift a finger against you.”

Her coy smile showed she was nearly convinced. That is, until it turned into a frown once more. Her eyes flicked around the room. “Cameras?”

“No way.”

She wasn’t cajoled.

Cole sighed and pulled out his phone, turning the flashlight on and turning it around the room. “See? No cameras in here.”

Her head turned, and that clever gaze locked onto the closet.

Razai’s hand pressed over my mouth, the other around my waist, and I was jerked back into his hard body. He muffled my uncontrollable gasp.

“See?” His low whisper rumbled through me, lips brushing the sensitive back of my ear. “I do know you well enough.”

We kept still as a beam of light cast itself into the closet, illuminating the boxes and shelves. If I had been even two inches forward, my body would have gotten caught in that beam. For once, Razai’s disregard for personal boundaries served me well.

Not to mention my own paranoia.

I panted into his hand, hoping, praying that they would be satisfied with their search.

The flashlight flickered and brightened, the holder turning his hand this way and that. After a final pause, the light disappeared.

Darkness settled over us in a protective blanket, leaving only the dim orangey glow.

We were safe. For now.

Something clattered to the floor, making me flinch. Razai still kept a tight grip on me, his fingers spread across my navel. Our bodies flush and insistent.

Heat washed through me. Or was it embarrassment? Either way, it had me squirming in place as I hyper-fixated on how easy it would be for those fingers to slide lower and lower. My thighs squeezed together.

Not the time, Gray. So not the time.

Steeling myself, I nudged the hand over my mouth until he loosened it and ignored the way it brushed my jaw and settled over my shoulder and collarbone. I stood on my tiptoes and leaned this way and that, trying to find a sliver between boxes so I could see where they were at. Razai didn’t release me, though.

I leaned forward a few inches to peek out the window and almost groaned in irritation.

They were making out. Heavily. I don’t know what I’d expected, but I definitely didn’t have Cole Highland’s open buckle on my list.

The girl’s hand disappeared down the front of his pants. Her head fell back as he kissed her and explored her body.
