“She didn’t eat much for lunch,” Ezra explains, then he turns to look at me. “And she’s always ravenous after a good fucking.”

“Ezra,” she scolds. Cheeks slightly red, she looks at the rest of us. “Okay, technically, we haven’t actually fucked yet.”

Jay raises a brow. “The scream we heard earlier tells another story.”

“He only got in a few pumps,” she says quickly before shooting a glare at the three of us. “We wereinterrupted.”

Ezra glares at me, too. I smirk. “Don’t look at me like that, Ezra. I’m not the one with the blue balls.”

Lee howls with laughter, and I can see Jay’s shoulders shaking as he tries to refrain from laughing.

Ezra rolls his eyes and stands up, gently helping Maya to her feet. He places his hand on the small of her back and guides her towards the double doors. “Go get yourself something to eat.” He gives her a quick kiss. She turns back to look at him, worry in her eyes. “I won’t let anything happen to you.”

She nods and reluctantly leaves, but not before giving Lee and I kisses, too, then darting out of the room before Ezra says anything. I give him a smug smile when he glares at me.

Ezra instructs Benji to go with Maya and stay by her side. When the door is closed, he balls his hands into fists and punches a hole in the wall beneath the large TV, exposing the wires within. His breathing is ragged, his whole body shaking. This is what he looks like when he’s panicking. We don’t see it often, but when it happens, it’s pretty evident.

“I swear to God, if that bastard comes anywhere near Maya…” He pulls out his phone and sends a quick text to someone.

Lee jumps up and goes to Ezra’s side, clapping a hand on his shoulder. “It’s alright, Ez. We’ll protect her. But I agree with her not wanting to leave; you know she’s safest when she’s with all of us.”

Everyone in the room nods in agreement, even Dante, who sees her as a nuisance.

Ezra meets each and every one of our gazes, a fierce determination shining in them. “We need to call for backup. We can’t let them in, not with Maya here, and not while we’re outnumbered.”

Of all days for Ezra to give half our soldiers the day off, this shit happens. We’d gotten too comfortable in the knowledge that Dom really wouldn’t find us. Now our stupidity is biting us in the ass.

“So, what do we do?” one of the guards asks from the other side of the room.

Ezra grinds his teeth together. “We go to them.”

CHAPTERFORTY-TWO

MAYA

“This seemslike a really inappropriate time for me to be eating,” I say around a mouthful of food.

Benji chuckles. “I think your stomach would say otherwise.”

I feel my cheeks burn. “I’ve been busy.”

Now he grins devilishly. “I know. We all heard how busy you were.”

I roll my eyes and shake my head, taking another bite of food. “You men are insufferable.”

I finish my meal of orange chicken, fried rice, and cream cheese rangoons quickly. “Where do I go now?”

“Follow me.”

I follow the guard out of the kitchen and down the hall where my bedroom is. I halt my steps, knowing exactly what’s about to happen.

“I’m not going in there,” I say quietly.

Benji turns around, looking impatient. “I’m just following Boss’s orders. It’s either your room or the basement. The basement is safer.”

I shake my head, backing away. “No.”

Not the basement. Anything but that. My room is a much better alternative, and I know that’s why he’s taking me there, but even that is starting to set my nerves on edge. If there’s shit going on in this house, I don’t want to be trapped in my bedroom with no way to defend myself.
