I let the steaming hot water pour over me, washing away the sweat and smoke from the club. I shower quickly, then wash my face and brush my teeth. Even though none of my things are here, Ezra made sure to stock my favorite skin and body care products for me. A part of me softens at the thoughtful gesture.

But then I remember what he just did to me, and I toss the bottles back onto the counter after I’m done using them.

When I’m finished, I pad back into the room to get dressed for bed. I pull open the first drawer in the dresser, hoping to find something I can wear. There are a few pairs of boxer briefs and oversized t-shirts, which I assume all belong to Ezra. I roll my eyes but put on the clothes anyway since I have nothing else to wear. His scent is on everything, and I smile despite myself.

The rest of the drawers have extra blankets, random chargers and cables, and other junk I don’t bother going through.

I look at myself in the mirror, dissatisfied with how my face looks. I somehow look like I’ve gotten a glow in my complexion, but that’s impossible. All I did was suck some dick.

It was good dick, though.

And, as I always am after giving head, I’m hungry.

I start to walk towards the door to go to the kitchen, but then I remember that Ezra locked the door from the outside, so I can’t leave.

There’s an intercom panel on the wall beside the door that I almost miss, so I start pressing buttons and calling to whomever will hear me until someone responds.

Finally, with the last button, I hear Ezra’s voice come through from the other side.

“Maya.” His tone is sharp and harsh, and I already know it’s going to be hard to get him to let me out.

“I’m hungry again,” I tell him. “Can you unlock the door so I can go get a snack?”

“No,” he says immediately.

I sigh. “Okay, so then you can bring me something to eat?”

Silence.

Really, you bastard?

“Ezra. Let me out of this fucking room right now.”

After a moment, he says, “no, I don’t think I’m going to do that.” Asshole sounds amused now.

“You can’t keep me locked in here. I’ll lose my mind.”

“I can, and I will.”

“Why?” I yell.

“For your protection,” is all he says.

“Protection fromwho, exactly?”

He’s quiet for a moment. “My enemies.”

Enemies?“Is someone after me? What aren’t you telling me?”

“No one’s after you,” he says harshly, as if he’s trying to convince himself. “I’ll have someone leave you some food by your door. Goodnight, Maya.”

The line cuts out. I keep pressing the button and calling his name, but he doesn’t respond.

I can’t believe this. He actually locked me in here. I knew that there was a possibility this might happen, but the hopeful part of me wanted to believe that he wouldn’t do it, that he’d changed.

“You can’t keep me caged in here like a fucking animal!” I yell to the ceiling, hoping he’ll hear me.

I pick up the lamp from my bedside table and toss it across the room, watching the glass shatter into a million pieces.
