“He’s going to be okay, right?” Cassie asks, her eyes zigzag between Jax and Dante.

A painfilled look crosses Jax’s eyes, then it vanishes as he opens his mouth to speak. “He’ll be okay, Cass. Things didn’t go as planned,” he tells her, attempting to pull her into his arms..

She grimaces, throwing her arms up, and backs away from him.“It’s always something with you five! Life is hard enough without dealing with this bullshit!” Cassie shouts.

“I begged my brother not to join this stupid club. But did he listen? Noo, he had to be like the rest of you idiots, putting your lives on the line.”

Jax and Lucky joined the Reapers in solidarity with Royal. Dante was already gone, and there was no way they would let Royal be a part of something without them.

Cassie doesn’t get it, but I do. They had already lost one brother, they weren’t going to risk losing another.

She levels me with a confused glare. “Why do you put up with this?” She yells.

I tilt my head at her, exhaustion taking over. I don’t have the energy for this. I’m dead on my feet right now. “Cass, ease up,”

She balls her fists at her side and shakes her head. “I don’t know why I’m wasting my breath with any of you. You all have a fucking death wish!” She glared around the room. “Just take me to my fucking brother. Now!”

Dante holds up his hands in surrender. “I’ll take you to the hospital, but Angel, you should clean up first,” Dante says. “You can’t walk into the hospital looking like that without someone calling the police.”

“Shit. We should probably change too,” Jax says.

I look down and realize that I’m a bloody mess, then notice the guys are too.

I’m not sure I can take much more. I damn sure know Cassie can’t. She’s breaking, and she deserves better than this. We all do.

“Can someone call and get an update on Royal and Lucky before I jump in the shower?” I ask.

Jax pulls out his phone, typing away quickly, and sending off a text. His phone pings with an immediate response. “Cruz is sending over a cleanup crew to get rid of the bodies. We need to wait for the prospects before we head out. I don’t trust leaving a house full of dead bodies without knowing it’s being handled.”

“That sounds like ayouproblem. Not ameproblem,” Cassie huffs. “I need to get to Lucky and see what the damage is before I call my mom to let her know what’s happening.”

I need to get to them. I need to make sure they are okay. It’s Royal and Lucky. They have to be okay.

Then it hits me all at once. The wind is knocked from my lungs.

Gabe.

Did he make it? Did they get him back?

Dante won’t even look at me. How am I supposed to ask him?

Fuck it. I need answers, consequences be damned.

I look at Jax, knowing he may not like it, but he’ll be honest with me.

“Where’s Gabe? Did you find him?” The words rattle out of my mouth

Jax grimaces, clutching his fists, and Dante turns away from me, nodding his head.

“Yeah, Angel. I got him. Your boyfriend lives to fight another day.” Dante’s voice is filled with venom and loathing.

Cassie looks at me, shaking her head in disbelief. “You can’t be fucking serious right now?”

“That’s how all of this started in the first place. Did you think I wouldn’t want to know?” She probably hates me for asking about him while knowing Lucky is hurt, but I had to know. I couldn’t go another second not knowing if King still had him.

“Do you want me to lie and act like I’m not worried about him too? He was at King’s mercy for far too long. Say what you want about him, but even Gabe doesn’t deserve that, Cassie.” She looks at me with fury in her eyes but drops the subject.

Jax’s phone rings, and he answers immediately, putting it on speakerphone. “Cruz, give me some good news, brother.”
