"Do I entice you, as you entice me?" His voice caused a small vibration against my neck.

My body wanted him. His touch, his kiss. That dark, alien side of him I had yet to understand and still craved to explore. It opened another side to me, my own secret, inexperienced side that wished to awaken. I tilted my neck, exposing more of it to him. I felt the tiniest nick as his fangs sank just below the surface.

Chapter Ten

VARUS

Her blood was as Iimagined. Rich, sweet, and strong. Even the tiny bit that spilled into my mouth from where I had my fangs in her neck was enough to send me close to the edge. Every sense in my body was on full alert and my cock grew rock hard.

I opened my eyes to take in the sight of her: head tilted, lips parted, neck exposed, almost in offering. Her eyes were closed. Her breathing came in short bursts as her chest moved up and down.

Her nipples were two hard pebbles that pushed against her shirt and grazed my upper arm. Were they a source of pleasure for her as they could be for the female Javorians? I wanted to put them in my mouth next and suck on them until she begged me to stop.

My cock lengthened in my pants while I tasted her blood, hot and rich with arousal. The primal part of me wanted to clear the table and lay her on top of it, to delve into the bond.

My fangs retracted. But Harper didn’t even think there was a bond between us. What was I doing?

"What are we doing?" She jumped up as soon as my lips left her neck. She put a hand to the tiny bite marks I left there. "I need to think more. I’m going outside."

"Why do you need to go outside to think?" I got up and gave her the space she needed. She vaulted past me and then whirled, her large brown eyes imploring. "This wasn’t part of the mission. It’s definitely not part of my plan."

I had to turn away to adjust myself. The heavy sensation in my balls wasn’t going to leave anytime soon as long as she stood there and the taste of her was still on my lips. "I know."

She moved in a scattered way while she grabbed notebooks and other things, stuffing them in her knapsack. "There’s no explanation for it."

Why couldn’t she stop trying to get an answer for everything? "Just because we can’t explain it doesn’t mean it’s not real."

She didn’t like my answer. "I work with science. There’s a reason for everything. You just have to figure out where to look."

"The reason is we were meant to find each other. Look at me and tell me you don’t believe it. I’ll wait."

She cut me with a glance. "I’m not going to hand over the entire trajectory of my life just because we had dreams about each other and decided to make out in the shower. I will figure this out myself." She put my hand on the door handle. "Now, if you don’t mind, I need to acquaint myself with this place since I’m going to be here for a while."

I viewed her hand and thought about when we touched. It felt so second nature. I didn’t want her to leave. The resulting tug I felt in my chest got my attention.

She blinked, released the door, and put a hand to her own.
