The Lorgan called Zorbluk turned to look at me. "I’m not little. I have more height and mass than all three of you."
"We know how strong the beam is then, don’t we, big guy?" Klinn high-fived him.
I sighed. Galactic dude-bros.
Thankfully, the magnetic beam had enough pull to get all four of us and the hovercar into Klinn’s spaceship without dropping us to the ground. The hatch closed.
"Home, sweet home." Gravix let the hovercar touch the ship’s floor and cut off the engine. "Ship’s autopilot is activated, boss."
Klinn’s seatbelt retracted with a soft click. "Good job getting us out of Kajal. Now let’s get in the air." He got out of the hovercar and reached out to me. "All set for takeoff, Faye?"
Chapter Three
FAYE
Irefused to take Klinn’shand. "You just kidnapped me. What in the flying saucers makes you think I’ll help you?"
He leaned in, giving me an unwavering look. "I promise I’ll explain once we’re out of Kajal’s airspace."
I gripped the edge of my seat. The former anxiety of being beamed into a spaceship was replaced with a new anxiety of being taken captive on one. I had to keep my mind alert to navigate this until I could escape or call for help.
Gravix and Zorbluk went off somewhere in the ship, leaving me and Klinn to talk alone. "I’m getting out now."
Klinn hardly made room for me to exit. He stood inches away from the door. I plastered myself against the hovercar so my chest wouldn’t brush against his. My body was up against his before in the warehouse. Beneath that layer of baggy sweatshirt, I felt the hard wall of muscle.
"You okay?"
"I like my personal space." I tried to slip past him. Why did it suddenly feel like a massive heat field between us?
"I can’t let you have too much of that while you’re here." As though to illustrate his point, Klinn took half a step back and winked at me. "You might get into something."
"New additions to your rap sheet, maybe?" I put my hands on my hips. "You still haven’t told me how you busted out of jail."
"What, like it’s hard on your planet?"
"Then tell me what’s this really about? Is it revenge for throwing you behind bars?"
